Recommendation for Powered Sub

Hi,

I posted here last fall and got some great advice regarding powered speakers/ DAC's. I've been very happily using Audioengine A2's with a NuForce uDAC-2 ever since (driven by my PC + Foobar). But I'm now itching to add a sub to the system.

The Audioengine S8 is the obvious choice but it's quite heavy (for it's size), not cheap at $349, and what feedback I've found says that it's a little slow and muddy.

Another option, the NuForce W-1, is much smaller in size but presumably also in sound with a 5" driver. But it's cheap at $125 and I've read positive feedback.

Does anyone have other recommendations?

The more compact the better, and of course suitable for use with powered desktops speakers (similar inputs/ outputs/ controls to the AE S8). I'd get the S8 if not for the mediocre feedback given the price. Any ideas?

Thanks!

The NuForce W-1 is not a subwoofer

and barely qualifies as woofer. It barely reaches a half an octave lower than your loudspeakers.

The Audioengine S8 is a subwoofer that is well matched to your Audioengine A2s. It is small and light for a subwoofer, and from what I've seen is well regarded. You will have 30 days before you have to send it back for a full purchase price refund if you don't like it. I think you will.

Mini Sub

Good point....AE has a great trial/ return policy. I'm sure that I'll be happy with the performance. And the price is probably worth it long term.
