Hi there, linden.
Thanks for joining the forum.
Both speakers received excellent marks in our magazine, and both seemed to really love classical music.
Here are our reviews, in case you haven't read them:
Infinity Primus 162
PSB Alpha B1
I haven't heard the Infinitys, but I fell in love with the PSBs. The PSBs were also named our Budget Product of the Year, if that matters to you. It's always best to listen for yourself, however.
Either way, you're headed towards some great-sounding music. Have fun!
You can get the Infinity Primus P162 for $200/pair, which has to be one of the better values in bookshelf loudspeakers today.
You can get the PSB Alpha B1 for $230/pair. While I somewhat liked the midrange of the Alpha B1 better than the P162, I think the sound of the P162 is better overall. I think the Infinitys will be easier to drive as well, but with the HK3485 it shouldn't be a problem with either loudspeaker.
You can't beat the Harman Kardon HK3485 for the price. I would choose it over the Yamaha RX-397.
Thank you so much for the swift replies! One more question: at this price point, should I worry about the particular cables at all? If so, recommendations?
The Acoustic Research Performance Series audio cables would work well with these components. About 13 bucks at Best Buy, cheaper at the links below.
