From pro to hi-fi and a little confused...

I didn't want to bother you guys with another "which speaker" thread, but I've been on the fence for three weeks and could really use some advice.

I'm converting from a pc based recording studio to a pc based hi-fi system, so I know a lot about pro components and little about hi-fi. I was running a fireface into a mackie mixer into some event ASP8's and that, by all means, sounded good; however, I have grown tired of the "flat" sound when I really wanna rock on rare occasions.

Right now, I have an HSU VTF-2 ready to backup whatever loudspeakers I find and because I already have pre outs on my soundcard and mixer, I'm really looking hard at active speakers. My budget runs up to $2,000 and I'm setup in a mid-sized room that won't allow for floorstanders. Also, I listen to everything from classical to rock and need something that will not bust my eardrums, but allow me to be on-stage with the band to feel the music as well as hear it.

I've noticed the Dynaudio Focus 110a's and they seem to have the sound quality I need, but I just don't know if they can represent rock music well. Could passive's and a receiver serve me better?

Anyone have experience with

Can anyone vouch for active Dyn's, like the Focus 110a's or BM6a's?

BM5A

I can vouch for the BM5A working well with rock music. I would think that the BM6A would only take it further, especially with a sub. I'd pass on the Focus 110A unless you feel you need the audiophile-pretty cabinet.
