Hi DUP.
Yes, Primedia is "exploring" the sale of its Enthusiast Media segment, which does include Stereophile.

Here's the announcement.

Hey, Stephen! Let's buy it!

To steal a phrase from Gary Larson, if we owned Stereophile, "We could be the grizzlies from Hell!"

If I owned Stereophile, the first thing I'd do is give it back to John Atkinson.

"John, what's that behind you? Is everything OK?"

"Yes, Mr. Nelson, it's just Stephen Mejias."

Kidding!

At least they didn't say it was "up your own butt"! I've been accused if that on occasion. LOL

In all seriousness, I wonder how much they'd want?

JA used to own it, right?

Is he interested in buying it back?

Ah, if I had the cash, I'd buy Stereophile. Anyone venture to guess what the first order of business would be?

Hitting on Hi Fi wenches?

Checking out the Stereophile secret clubhouse?

Changing the Stereophile secret handshake?

Rubbing Wes Phillips' head for good luck?

Promoting Stephen?

The list is endless!

What??? There hi-fi wenches??? That changes the first order of business entirely!

BTW, I'd be careful about rubbing Wes Phillips' head for good luck. You rub it hard enough and a genie will pop out.

Yeah, what is a old recognized magazine worth nowadays? If I owned it, I'd surely prove what I don't know about publishiing. Maybe something new, a reader owned magazine? Kinda like when the employees buyout the company? StereoPhile IPO? Wonder why they wanna get out of the hobby business? That's a lotta magazines, in the 70's? Everymonth ad money coming in from every conceivable mfg in the car, motorcycle, audio business. Every business keeps going through changes. Consolidating, moving this, moving that. Hope it survives, it is entertaining. And admitidly informative on certain issues. As well as being semi useless on some issues. so that makes it well rounded, which is good.

If it wasn't for them wimmen,
I'd have my curly locks today,
But it's been hugged, kissed, and petted,
'Til it was rubbed clean away.

Uh, fire Steve and John? Then hire a couple of orangutans to take their place so the reviews can be free of any conflict of interest?

Suddenly DUP quits typing like a racoon.

I think DUP should buy Stereophile.

He could change the name to The Audio Denial Monthly, and every article would be the same, because everything sounds the same. All current staff could be fired, which would make costs (and circulation) next to nil.

It would be a simple job, because he would just change the month and the picture on the cover, and put out the exact same articles in every issue (perhaps a name or two would change from month to month; not much work).

If he needs a journalistic exemplar, he could use one of those newsletters that denies that the holocaust ever happened; they also ignore or deny all generally accepted facts in their field, and have a circulation consisting exclusively of the strange and bewildered (the circulation, of course, would number only in single digits, fortunately or unfortunately...).

The downside would be that the current staff would probably be forced to go live in New Mexico or some other civilized place and found a new magazine that would be totally independent and start from scratch with no editorial or financial oversight from corporate megamedia. Exiled from the Big Apple; such a sad fate.

Brilliant!..Or maybe it should be a breakthrough of teh month magazine. Oh, that is kinda how it works now. Think about how every amp or CD player each month is just such a breakthrough from last month's. The differenes in audible sound between each one is such a dramatic improvement over last months. Then there is the thing with wires....now don't get me going on that. How each AC cord makes the CD player so so much improved. Demagnetizing plastic, here we go. so many generalyy accepted FACTS in teh industry. Accepted by whom? Ad guys? MArketing types? Which piece of wire do you say sounds better?

Didn't Sam Tellig suggest rubbing armorall on one's forehead to make CDs sound better at one point? I distinctly remember something about rubbing armorall. If anyone remembers what that was about, please let me know.
