for $29 you can buy an ortofon entry level cartridge and find out if the problem is with the cartridge. no sense in using an old cartridge anyway when new ones that are going to be much better are available for less than $100
let us know how you solve the problem.

Thanks, Tom. That's exactly what I did. I hope it's the cartridge, but if not at least it's new. I will update when installed.
