Welcome and enjoy your audio journey! Telling us you are on the cheap side doesn't really help. What kind of budget are you looking at? What source(s) are you going to need, turntable, CD player, FM tuner, iPod, computer, etc.?

Thanks for the welcoming,

Yes I believe this will be a life long journey I always had a thing for stereo's and now that I am getting older it is only getting more serious and I am glad that there is a site like this where the experienced can mentor the inexperienced.

On the speakers I am looking at around 500-700 I found some used B & W's & Paradigm's for around that, about 500-700 on the amp/pre-amp, I bought my current system piece by piece ( I'd rather buy good stuff piece by piece then have a sub par system all at once) so that is not a hassle for me, the components I am looking at a SACD player and a turntable and I have a western digital media player (reads my external HD)that hook up to my stereo for my Flac & Mp3 files I don't listen to radio so tuner is not on the list.

For speakers, there are closeouts right now on the old PSB Image line and the Monitor Audio RS line (to be replaced by the RX line) line. The PSB Image T65 and Monitor Audio RS6 are both $799 right now and present an outstanding value.

The NAD C372 integrated amplifier ($699) would be a good match for either of those speakers. Other possibilities are the Cambridge Audio Azur 640A ($699) and the Jolida JD1501A ($675). Another consideration is the Shanling A3000 200wpc hybrid integrated amplifier which I recently saw listed for $862 at nysound.com. That is an absolute steal on a very good sounding and powerful amp. I don't know anything about that vendor though.

For a SACD player the Sony SCD-XA5400ES ($1500) is getting a lot of buzz (including here). If looking for a budget player the universal players from Oppo do an adequate job.

For turntables I have always liked the Rega P1 ($395) modified by LP Gear. A substantial upgrade would be a Rega P2 or P3 with a suitable cartridge; $700-$800 and $1,100-$1400, respectively.
