Hi DSS,Could you possibly post a drawing of your room, and the one it joins, here? That would help figure this one out.

Hi JSB,
I looked at the Forum's FAQs and it said to post an attachment I need a browser compatible with Mozilla. It said if mine is when I preview the post I'll be given the option to attach. I'm on IE and saw none. Is that right?

Buddha helped me do this for my recent post.

For pics, you need to have your images 'hosted' on a server. You can't post them right from your computer. There are websites like Photobucket that you can download your images to. After you do that, when you are looking at your picture, you can copy the URL of the picture, and then when you click Image on your post, you would paste the hyperlink into the image address.

I converted an excel chart into an image and was able to post. It would be simple to scan a drawing as an image and then you would be able to post.

Hope this helps.

Peter - thanks for the advice. Here's the link:

I've indicated possible speaker positions with two "A" and two "B" boxes. Some furniture is sketched, as well as room and entry opening dimensions.

What's the oval in the middle of the room. Is it a table or a rug? Hopefully it isn't a table. That would potentially create strong reflections that would hurt the sound. If it's a rug "A" would work really well if you could move the chair to the other side of it facing the speakers, move the couch backwards against the wall, and move the speakers in from the side walls a bit. For example I wouldn't think that you'd want Thiel CS 1.6 speakers to be more than 8 to 10 feet apart.

"B" is less than ideal because it's firing across the short dimension of the room which would provide less bass and a reduction in deep bass. Also having a fire place between the speakers will negatively affect their ability to create a strong center image. If you moved the chair closer to the wall behind it so that it doesn't impede the path of the sound of that speaker that would be quite helpful.

What about that living room? Is that an option? If so please label the items in there and we can present some options for that room.

Always a controversial name in Hi Fi, but given your arrangement, this may be a perfect case where finding a used pair of Klipsch Cornerhorns may be just the ticket.

The woofer will be relatively unaffected by the furniture set up, and the mid/treble should project over it and easily into the room.

Used pairs can be found, perhaps just above the budget you mention.

This baby may be just up your alley, too.

Do some reading about other speakers you may be interested to see how they do with corner loading, as well.

Keep us posted as to what you come across!

I agree with ML that A is much better. The opening that will then be in the rear behind you is also a Good Thing.

Buddha-

Yes, k-horns would work well but actually ANY Klipsh speaker works best in a corner. When pushing them into a corner they become a lot less bright because in contrast to most other speakers that is how they are designed to be used. All of their speaker are designed and measured using a mock corner in the middle of their anechoic chamber

Ooh, then a pair of La Scala's on stands in the corner may fly, for under budget!
