I have the Music Hall MMF-2.2 at one of my homes and I highly recommend it. I also recommend the Musical Fidelity Phono preamp for around $200. It is well worth it.
The KEF speakers are probably a very good choice.
I recommend the Harman-Kardon 3490 receiver, which has very good sound quality and is available for under $400. It is a remarkably good unit with great sound quality and lots of power for its price. The NAD 326BEE is also quite good-sounding, but with a lot less power and features.
Since you listen to classic rock, a good subwoofer is essential. Be sure to get a 12-inch subwoofer with at least 300 watts of RMS power (NOT peak power...). Cost will be $500 to $700. Don't cheap out or you will just waste money.
The NHT B12D, which I currently use, is really excellent.
Another good one for less money is the Klipsch RW12D.
The MMGs are wonderful speakers for small-scale classical music and jazz, but they are dynamically limited and have no bass; not at all what one wants for rock or orchestral music. I don't think they would suit you.
The OPPO BDP-103 CD/SACD/DVD player is $499 and FAR better-sounding than anything else you can buy for under $1000. It also has an amazing set of features which will give you great system flexibility and features. That is a no-brainer.
I suggest that you look at the OPPO website for a listing of the BDP-103 features. You can also buy it there direct from OPPO.
Thanks for your suggestions!
Upon returning home, I realized the reciever I have is the Yamaha RX-V375... Knowing this, I think I am going to work off of this for now and wait to upgrade my reciever until I have the money to make a sizeable quality jump. Let me know if you think the Yamaha is actually really worth upgrading now though?
I've also decided to stick with the Klipsch Icon Series Bookshelves for now while I put more money into turntable, pre amp, subwoofer, cd player. As far as a subwoofer, Do you think the Infinity Primus PS312 is suitable enough for my needs or might that be "cheaping it." If not, does the Klispch RW-12II look appropriate for my needs?
The Infinity subwoofer is probably OK.
Just make sure you get a 12-inch sub with plenty of power.
I think the Harman-Kardon 3490 would be $320 well-spent.
It should sound better than the Yamaha and drive your speakers better.
