NAD 375DAC or Peachtree Nova125?

Hey folks,

First off, glad to be here. During my seemingly endless research, I've landed on this site too many times to count. I need a little advise as far as these two products.

Does it matter that the NAD has only a 24/96 compared to the Nove125 that has 24/192? I listen to mostly flac files of live shows, but I also listen to a wide range of Jazz, classical, folk and even some electronic if the mood strikes me. I can bi-amp the NAD and also like the tone controls (sometimes I need to adjust with some of these dowloads). However, the Nova125 looks so nice and my wife will welcome it far more than the NAD. I guess the question is what would you buy? They're both $1599 (Audio Advisor). The only thing that's really stopping me from the NAD is the 24/192, but I'm not sure if that matters, or not.

I was considering the Outlaw that got some great reviews, but I would need an external DAC. Plus I think it might be worth the extra money to get one of the other two as I believe they're better units.

I have been waiting for the right time to get something nice and I've been looking at amps and speakers for a couple of years......almost everyday. This site, among others, has been my morning reading and an ongoing obsession. Now I got a heftly promotion and moved into a sweet house in the mountains of NC, so I'm ready! I'm going to do it and my wife will thank me later! :) She loves music as much as I do.........well, close anyway.

I think I'll be pairing one of those amps the B&W CM5's. Not sure if I'll need a sub, but I'll figure that out later.

Any thoughts? Advise? Thanks in advance, and like I said, I'm happy to be here!

Rob

NAD

The NAD is a much better unit if you ask me.

What sort of application do you think you will have for 192?

I'll bet you have no idea what that is even used for.

The difference in the DAC is of no practical imprtance at all.

They are both easily able to do what you want.

I use the NHT B12D woofer, and it is a really great unit for only $800.

It is also relatively compact and comes in a wonderful piano black box.

Right.....about the 192.

Right.....about the 192. That's why I asked. Maybe an explintion? I'm a tad bit lost. The way I see it is if there's a higher resolution, wouldn't it be better? However, I'm guessing it wouldnt be noticable since most of the FLAC files I have are 16 bit 44.1 kHz. The 390DD model has the same DAC but I read an article where the writer said you'll be able to upgrade the card. Maybe it's the same with the 375DAC. Any thoughts on that? By the way, I would say 98% of the music I listen to is in some sort of file format. CD's have sort of faded out of the picture. I simply want the best sound from these files.......even the shitty Mp3's that my wife downloads.

Thanks for the comment! I am learing toward the NAD. It seems I can to more with it and it's a bit more powerful.

If

If you don't have hi rez files (which are usually 24/96 and 24/192) then there's no reason to concern yourself about it. Unless you download hi Rez tracks in the future...

True. I think I've come to the conclution I'll go for the NAD, and if I have to, get an externam DAC later.

Now the CM5's or the Studio 20's!?!? Ha.

I can't be the only persom who goes through this.

I think you'll be very happy

I think you'll be very happy with the NAD amp. There are plenty of external DACs available at various price levels when you feel a need to upgrade, and they are improving all the time.

I did it!

Just now! I FINALLY pulled the trigger. BUT, I didn't get either of the above units! I went for the Peachtree220 and the NovaPre. It was on sale and was about the same price as both of the others! Sweet! Now I wait........
