I suggest that you get an OPPO BDP-105. It can act as both a player, preamp, and very high-quality DAC.

It will sound about 500% better than your old player did, plus let you access music you have ripped from your CDs to your computer via a USB connection. You can also load up to 100 CD albums onto a USB memory stick and plug that into the USB jack of the OPPO (or the USB jack in your car's audio system). As for accessing things via your Control Director, I think you need to write that off. That is not going to happen.

For archiving your music to your computer, I suggest using 320K MP3 files. I have a very-high-quality sound system, and I find these to sound very good, while keeping the amount of memory space within limits. I do not recommend lower-resolution file formats.

I would assume that you can just rip CDs to your computer's music library and then access that library via your Control director system.

A 32 GB USB memory stick can hold about 100 CDs (as 320K MP3s), and I love being able to just plug one into my car or other audio system and play the music. That is a great transportable music system; just stick it in your shirt pocket and take a ton of music with you.

If you decide to rip your CS library i suggest you purchase dBpoweramp.
It works V well, verifies the copy is accurate & pulls in the cover art & metadata.
Nothing worse than having to re-rip you entire library when you find that your original rips are missing wanted info.

JMHO YMMV

You are a godsend and I personally wish to thank you. Per your recommendation, I investigated further into the OPPO BDP-105. I contacted OPPO and explained my particular situation. The tech assured me that the OPPO BDP-105 would work with my Audio Control Director System. That was music to my ears. I just purchased the OPPO BDP-105 and can’t wait. My only minor concern is that I play my music virtually 24/7. Will this have any adverse affect on the OPPO?

Also, haven’t purchased the 32GB USB flash drive yet. Looking at the Sandisk Cruzer 32GB USB 2.0 flash drive, however they have two types. One is a regular flash drive and the other is a low-profile flash drive. Is there really any difference? Or can you recommend something better. Regardless, thank you very much for your help.

Sounds like your set on the Oppo and they are great products so won't discourage you from that but will mention that if you are looking at whole house music distribution you may want to look into a computer base system with all you music stored on a central NAS. I don't know the details of your control system but you could always check with the mfg regarding its compatibility with network audio (DLNA).

Also given your high usage rate, a NAS is designed for use in a business applications with heavy use in mind so that is something to keep in mind. I have an oppo and feel its extremely well built, but just wanted to mention the above if your system is truly 24/7

If you end up going computer based i would recommend Jrivers for the software if you are windows based. They have a mac application but it was still pretty rough compared to the windows version when I used it. There are many other great software as well but can really only comment on Jrivers.

Depending on your system you could also look at Sonus and other competing systems. Of course the custom control unit complicates the setup but if they work with network audio you might be in luck.

The nice thing with a multi-room server based system is not every room needs to listen to the same music.
