is Audiotronics in Norwalk CT at 18 Issac St. Phone is 203-838-4877. I am certain they have several speakers in the Silver line in the showroom to listen too. You will have to call them to see if they have the Bronze. They also carry Wharfedale, PSB, Paradigm and Revel.
I know it is a schlep to get out to Norwalk, but if you took the New Haven line to So Norwalk, you could take a cab over. Not exactly right in the city, but at least you will be able to hear them with some other great speakers.
Thanks. That's a little farther than i had imagined :) to have to go to find these speakers. How is it that they don't have a proper floor dealership in NYC? Boggles the mind. Have dropped a note on their website too let us see if I hear back from them.
Yet, I bet you could hear the entire KEF Reference line and B&W diamond line in like 6 stores. In NYC they only want to sell the stupidly expensive.
Yes that's exactly what I found. In act two of the shops offered to show me some excellent b&w ones. Which I've already heard at other shops.
NYC is a weird place to shop for stuff like this. All the appointment only stuff is frustrating too. I live in CT and work in the city so between the two areas I can get out to listen to almost anything I want. Just in the city, you are stuck with what the local showrooms want to sell and it seems they want to show and sell B&W.
If you are serious about getting them, you could buy the from Crutchfield and do an in home demo. That is the best way to audition speakers anyway and Crutchfield has a very liberal return policy. I think that on-line availability is the real reason why PSB and Monitor Audio are so hard to find. Why dedicate showroom space to a brand where someone is going to listen to it and then buy on-line to save the sales tax.
If I were you, I would just order them from Audio Advisor and listen to them for 2 or 3 weeks and then ship them back if you are not satisfied.
I think you will love them; they are great speakers.
They are offering the BX6 speakers now for only $379 each, which is a great deal (and free shipping).
The only thing you will be out is the return shipping should you decide against them.
That is a pretty cheap price to pay for the extended in-home trial, IF it comes to that.
They give you 30 days. with no hassle if you decide to cancel.
Listening in a store is a total waste of time, because the acoustics and associated equipment will make it all sound different. You really need them at home for a week or so to make a good decision.
I won't buy anything any more based on what I hear in a store; been burned that way a few times.
Have you tried Cosmophonic Sound? They are nice guys and are MA dealers.
Also, a while back, I wanted to look(!) at the Monitor Silver finishes and found a dealer at an upstairs suite on West 44th Street. It was mostly a desk farm with salesmen on phones but they had a demo room and they pleasantly ushered me to it. I didn't ask for a demo so I do not know more than that.
I haven't heard of Cosmophonic Sound. Their site list ADS Speakers. What a blast from the past.
Kal, is J & V Audio the midtown store you were referring to, http://www.yelp.com/biz/j-and-v-audio-new-york ?
Yes, Cosmophonic is an MA dealer. The last time I dropped in they said they were in the process of setting up the new models, so I suggest you give them a call.
And, yes, it was J&V to which I referred.
I had reached out to Cosmophonic and they only have BX2s. Anyway I ordered BX5s and the NAD D 3020 from Audio Advisor will see how they pair up.
aargh
audio advisor just told me that they only have 1 new bx5 :( and that is is discontinued !!
The BX6 is much better anyway, and they have plenty in stock for only $379 if you order soon. They are being discontinued, but that is why the great price now.
Thanks everyone for your help/advice.
I ended up going with the NAD D 3020 paired with the Monitor Audio Bronze BX2 and find them an exceedingly good combination for my space. So far most of what i've heard has been over bluetooth/ youtube through the TV/optical port but I have been blown away for the most part with the quality so far. And the combination cost be just under 930 dollars with stands/bluetac/wires. My original problem was to find a stereo system that would outperform some of the pricier soundbars that were in the 1200 ish range.
I'm glad that worked out so well for you!
Nad and MA should be a good combo. Both have a lot goin for them.
I owned and listened to MA bronze and silver line extensively but I never really liked that tweeter of theirs....sounds harsh when pushed a little compared to similarly priced speakers from Dali, B&W or others. That's just my opinion from personal experience.
I like the B&W sound and have 802Ds and CM10s in my video room. The Monitor Audio are fine sounding speakers also. Go with your ears
