Is there a review of this unit in the very near future. I'm getting ready to make a purchase in October. Thanks.
In case you were unaware, Stereophile has reviewed the original UDP HERE . You may want to review JA's measurements and comments, as well as Kals' follow up.
Yep, I've read that article, but I was interested in the update version. Thanks anyway.
Pernlyp,if by special edition you mean the CJ edition, there was a review in a British magazine (hi-fi choice) in their 2006 ultimate hi-fi choice special edition.

AFAIK, there is a McCormack UDP-1 Deluxe and a C-J version which differ only in cosmetics.
Auditioned it, loved it, bought it.
A huge improvement over my old Theta gear. It wasn't one of these deals where you convince yourself that you hear a difference. I'm at the point that the system can call you into the music room just to hear what's radiating throughout the house. Most excellently satisfied.
Congrats parnlyp ! What Theta gear you used to have and what are the improvements with the McCormack ?
Theta Pro Logic IITheta DataTheta Data Universal transport(Handled the old 12" laser discs)
Both transports wore out and parts replacements, the actual transports, were no longer available. I couldn't handle the read errors anymore so a new purchase was in order.
That purchased turned out to be the Conrad Johnson edition of the McCormack UDP-1 Deluxe.
What's different. That's pressure. I'm now a reviewer!!!!
I did not expect much as I was happy with the Theta gear. I did want to tame the system a bit. It wasn't really harsh, but after a CD or two you were done listening. That is no longer the case.
Not really wanting to use "reviewer terms" as I'm sure to use them wrong, I'll give you my own terms:
You can listen to instruments like cymbals that are way back in the mix. You can hear all of the individual sounds that make up the cymbal. You hear the individual rivets vibrating. All the while a raucous band is playing in front of the drum kit.
The sounds have no fatigue factor at all. You can listen all day. To me the sound can be described as a bit warmer, inviting. The system draws me in from other rooms at times.
The biggest change for me is that sounds seem to have a life of thier own. They are individual. They are vibrant. A sound now is comprised of many parts that make it sound closer to being real. It has duration.
Oh year. It can scare the crap out of you with transients.
Wow, I'm happy.
Another thought; I tend to play the system much louder now. It sounds great when played quietly at night, but this thing can really crank with what I'm guessing is reduced distortion.
I still have my old Theta Jade and i am not selling it.I just love to see it sitting there. It is a piece of art !!!Well, except the remote control ! As for your reviewing cababilities, not bad,not bad at all.Kal beware UDP-1 Deluxe is a great cd player.Actually, one of the 2-3 that would be in my "purchase" list. I do not know if you have allready played the system enough time to "break in" the player, but once it is full "broke in" , you will be amazed.Have fun
