Maybe that stuff made in Europe RoHS will not be so good?

That RoHS requirement is a major issue with us in the defense industry. Overseas customers require this, but using these products don't meet our quality requirements.
Whiskers are probably not an issue with the large component spacing used in consumer electronics but is a major problem with the high density almost zero spacing used in defense electronics.
I'm in that industry too, cyclebrain and know of which you speak. However, I will disagree about consumer electronics not being a problem. Many consumer products today are using chip scale or near chip scale components. Also, if you look at the NASA tin whisker site you will see that whiskers can grow quite long affecting even "wide" 25 mil pitch components. The only thing that saves consumer products from failure due to whiskers is that they are usually discarded before it becomes a problem. They also are not subject to harsh environments which may accelerate growth. Whiskers are not the only problem with RoHS.

Another plus for the tube camp. Lets see a wisker that can reach across a tube socket or a terminal strip.
Since tin whiskers have been documented up to 10mm long, that is entirely possible.

That's a cool picture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Niiiiiiiice, proof...neat!!!!!! And tubes they have their own failures, as in hV arcs across things since they run at much higher voltages up into 300-400V, that in itself is another science, though modern NEW tbue sockets etc capactiors are much more reliable than stuff out of teh 50's and 60's...Old is not better...old is old
Nice thread guys - I have to admit -I'm not a fan of the lead free thing - the smell it gave off was nicer than the Lead-free alloys we use in UK right now.
Plus if it wasn't for inhaling lead solder fumes you wouldn't have that envious babe magnet of a face that you display in your avitar. Just imagine adding a little mercury to your diet.
