It just came out and replaced the SR4021. Compare and contrast the two models.
I can't say I've actually heard this particular receiver, but I did purchase the Marantz SR5004 A/V Receiver last year, and can say it is of top build quality and has stellar sound. In fact I use in pure stereo mode all the time for CDs or lossless iPod/Wadia idock play and it is excellent from top to bottom!
I don't think it would be a stretch to think many of the amplifier components would be shared by these two. The A/V amp has more channels and 10 more watts, and of course the video and decoding, but otherwise most specs are the same on the Marantz site. My stereo audio system (in another room) uses a Krell amp, but if I was to set up a two-channel system for a friend I would recommend Marantz without hesitation.
I've had mine since 2010, and it is clean and powerful. Twelve years may not sound like much, but ask others how long their receivers lasted without a problem. I have a Cambridge Audio Receiver, and Emotiva separates for my big system, but my 4023 is what I drive my monitor speakers for the computer (SMSL 200) DAC. The bad news is the advancement of DAC technology since 2010, and the one inside is not up to date.
