Marantz 2252 - speakers?

Hi everybody,

After hitting about 300 LPs and 300 eps after years of collecting, I decided to make some upgrades from my current system. Technics turntable hooked into some crappy panasonic receiver and generally crappy panasonic speakers.

Recently sold off a bunch of records I don't really care for anymore, and have the money to build a much better setup. Fine with the turntable, but I'm very interested in the Marantz 2252 reciever. Advice for anything along this lines, and good speakers to go with it?

I was thinking vintage....i've heard good things about KLH model 6 speakers, and have run into a few pairs around here. Ideally looking for vintage speakers I suppose.

There can be a lot of problems with old speakers. the surrounds go bad, the voice coils scrape due to cone deformation or warping, capacitors get leaky, etc.

I wouldn't go there unless you would rather tinker than listen to music.

I sure wouldn't buy anything without actually listening to them for a bit, and giving the cones avery close physical inspection.

New speakers are a better idea, IMO.

I am lucky enough to live with some musicians who build pedals, guitars, amps, etc...so not too concerned about getting things fixed up. So, vintage speakers are always an option.

That being said, free hookups don't last forever. What are some reccomendations for $300-400 a pair NEW speakers that would go well with the Marantz? Listening to mostly rock, psych, noise, metal and punk....

very easy to refoam the woofer surrounds, or replace the drivers. The crossovers are easy to upgrade as well. A nice sounding loudspeaker which had been paired with many a Marantz receiver in their day.

The AR 3ax is another good sounding vintage speaker although somewhat harder to restore.
