I certainly will Keld. I will be picking them up the first week of September because I needed one more paycheck.
I am very excited. I am even looking forward to the 300 mile drive to meet the seller half-way

Another thanks to TR here. That one's been in my hot rotation since I bought it.

I've discovered a bunch of good music in this thread, and I haven't checked a lot of it out yet.

Chicago V dvd-a. I moved the Denon dvd-3910 into the work room to record. Ah, Saturday In The Park just came on. Man those horns start out smooth and then get sassy. Not much Terry Kath, but I can hear him comping in the left channel.

I've been listening to Buckingham and Nicks. I also pulled out an old NPR RiverWalk Jazz recording I did of Art Tatum with Shelly Berg and the Jim Cullum Jazz Band. Great stuff.
Check your listing for that program often on Sat night at 8pm. Great jazz every Sat night. Thanks to Rgibran.

Yeah, that is a great link that Rgibran shared with us. I remember the Buckingham Nicks album my dad had. I can see him now standing over his Thorens turntable.

Jim -

I gotta ask.

I'm not in the least superstitious, but I have a small stereo (NAD receiver & Infinity 152s) in my office, and a few years ago I got in the habit of playing something late Friday afternoon. It was my commentary on the week, or a little music to welcome in the weekend or something.

Inevitably and invariably, when I do it, the sh*t hits the fan. Either some horrible thing happens out in the real world or we have some disaster in the newsroom. I have gotten to the point where I am mildly spooked by this - you don't by any chance see the same effect?

Re: Listening to...

Surprisingly, when the students are working quietly and indepently on something I will play some classical music at a low level. Most really like it as it breaks up the silence and keeps some of the "yakers" from talking as much. I guess it soothes the savage beast.

About a minute or so before lunch in went Springsteen. They loved it.

I'm hoping that nothing bad happens, but so far so good. Mid term grades go in Tuesday and those A students will get to bring in some of THEIR music for us to lisiten to occasionally. They are well aware that the lyrics must be appropriate or they will spend some time in In School Suspension. I am not policing it. THEY are. Time to grow up. Appropriate fun is fine.

Sometimes they need to be reminded that we, just as they, were students and we did not like all our teachers, but some we really did and that we all did work in school that wasn't always fun, but it had to be done anyway. They often think we don't know what it is like to be in school. I remind them we are not really that much different. Only age separates us. Make it fun and the day goes faster.

I also remind them they they have technology available to them that we could only dream of, but that it can be a major distraction as well. Time management can be harder for them.

I really hate what cell phones have done to us. I would love a National NO-CELLPHONE DAY. Like that is going to happen.

Re: Listening to...

If you like folk and bluegrass music check out the free 2496 pcm download from BlueCoast.com of Joshua Lowe and the Juncos; Snow Began to Fall. Nice.

I am listening to it through the $65 Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio downloadable program that now does 24/192 recording and playback. Sounds as good as I need it to be. I will be transfering it into my laptop and burning a DVD+R with $40 Audio DVD Creator of all the BlueCoast songs I've downloaded. It will make a nice compilation DVD of 2496 files.

The disc sounds great!!!!!!!!!!!

For a measly $100 I am having a great time. This is my future. Please come along.

ps We have a new pianist at church who began today and he is remarkable. He was burning up our 7ft Steinway B grand. I met him after church and told him we needed to do some recording real soon. He was very interested.

I am hoping some new 2496 recordings are in my immediate future. Stay tuned.

I love just about all kinds of music. Never been a polka or rap (crap) kinda guy. Even If I don't particularly like the musician or band I still can appreciate the musicianship of said artist. I will have to check out Joshua Lowe and the Juncos. I really dig Bela' Fleck and the Flecktones, I have admired thier masterful musicianship although some tunes I am not to jazzed with.

Jim, it sounds like you are heading in the right direction with the 24/96 digital format and you have some nice plans to look forward to. I wish you the best of luck in that endeavor. I am also intrigued with this format as well.

Those marvelous CD's you sent me were so musically revealing
I know they sounded better than most of my CD collection. Although I love Gold MFSL original masters very much But, probably to my detriment. Its just sad MFSL went out of business and the selection is so limited.

Keep us informed. I'll anticipate further developments in the 24/96 digital music realm.

Sorry 'bout this brief thread hijack, guys.

Jim -

My wife is just moving into administration (assistant principal) after teaching English for the last 10 years.

As you know, cell phones are a nightmare in school - they destroy what's left of students' attention spans, and efforts to control them are, ummm, laughable.

I asked my wife why that is, and she told me 'It's the parents. There is such anxiety out there, people want to be able to touch base with their kids - and know their kids can reach them.'

If I had my way, cells would be banned in school. Of course, if I had my way uniforms would be required and punishment would involve physical labor, so I'm probably not the mainstream on this.

Listening tonight: Cecil Taylor's 'Looking Ahead' and 'Three Phasis.'

'Bitches' Brew' 40th Anniversary edition - the Live in Copenhagen '69 dvd.

This music has been floating around unofficially for a long time, but seeing Miles' band on the cusp of moving from acoustic to electric instruments - and before the band became full tilt aggro - is wonderful. The music is, of course, dazzling.

(As I'm writing, there's Miles, framed by himself at the front of the stage, playing the theme from "Sanctuary." It is very moving stuff.)
