They have no memory.
They killed all the natives and since then they have been talking non stop about the American Dream. Ask the Indians what they think of it. They had slaves here long after the Russians abolished slavery but they send their secretary of state around the globe to tell everybody how to behave. Watched the film "There will be blood"? I much prefered watching "Brideshead Revisited".

How can they understand and mediate the Midle-East conflict??
They behaved the exact same way toward their native population as the Israelis do now toward the Palestinians. Now it is Israel's Dream that has to be fulfilled at all cost. History repeats itself.

Lamont dear, it's often not possible to deduce whom your remarks are addressed to.
The Greeks preferred their 'boys' as post-pubescent. Although they were younger than their lovers, they were not forced into these relationships that were anything but casual. Even given today's ridiculously broad definition, the Greeks were not pedophiles. The Spartan Greeks waged war as adult couples under the peculiar theory that a lover would always fight more bravely beside his loved one.
The Romans would root anything that stood still long enough. The oddest thing about all this is that modern Greeks & Romans often claim " We don't have gay's" Yeh!

Oh, yes, this from the heroes of Algeria- only a million natives exterminated! The French are very good at shooting Greenpeace boats out of the water (I know- the CIA made you do it), but not so keen on defending their own country- you are too busy making mayonnaise and fucking each other's wives and husbands.

Should have let the Germans wipe the smug looks off your unwashed faces you arrogant ingrates. Where are the graves of the French freedom fighters in Europe? Educate me- I'm an ignorant American.

The Germans did wipe that smug look of their faces. Twice last century. Now, they take care of our dead. If elected I promise to bring home all our dead in France from two world wars and bring them home where they belong. I will say a few things for France. Their civilians took a hell of a beating during Operation Overlord and subsequent battles throughout France and never once complained. Their French Foreign Legion is one of the greatest armies in modern history. France makes no bones about needing outside help to protect her interests. France helped win two revolutions. Look, everywhere the French went you half educated American fowlowed. This is how smart you are. Vietnam. Iraq which is just like Algeria. Everytime we told you not to go. I loved the symbolic gesture of that Iraqi trowing his shoes at Bush. It speaks a thousand words.

Re: "At Least They Agree on Something?" Pardon my French, but wh

France sent their French Foreign Legion into the Dien Bien Phu valley in 1954 and was annihilated. You want to talk about Vietnam? The French sent their French Foreign Legion to Iraq I. You want to talk about Iraq? And lets not get into the Vichy French that caused the Allies to have to sink the French Navy in WWII. And lets not get into DeGaulle who couldn't be trusted so much that he was left completely out of the liberation of France in June 1944. Yes, even when France was occupied by Nazi Germany there were still hundreds-of-thousands of French that hated The Allies. The Vichy French. You are an absolute disgrace to the French that sacrificed everything they had for the free world. BTW, Iraq is not like Algeria. We didn't leave Iraq with our tails between our legs crying like a puppy left out in the cold. France wasted their Legion in Algeria and for what? To lose? The Legion stands alone. Why? Because they aren't really French. The Legion is proud of their fight in Algeria and vomits over why they had to leave. Because of France. Not the enemy.

You do not represent France.

You should be stripped naked, your head shaved, and forced to march through the streets of Paris. On second thought, you would probably enjoy it. There was a time not so long ago when the real French would take people like you behind the village and have you shot without ceremony. There are thousands of unmarked graves in France filled with losers like you. And that's a fact. Another fact is my family fought in France in two world wars. So, here is a hearty "fuck you" from the Bellicini and Martin families.

JSBach, I don't understand "petal."

I hope, given your choice of a web-handle, that you can write a decent fugue.

I have forgotten my Greek and Roman History? Hardly. They just took an occasional, er, stab at each other. Casual sex.

Only in California was the "gay relationship" invented.

I didn't even vote on proposition 8. I couldn't care less WHO does WHOM. These are private matters. Personally, I am attracted to pussy. This ought to be too much information. But, in an era when confessionals are fashionable, I confess to an existential and metaphysical indifference to what anyone chooses to do with his/her dick or twat.

In California, we invented the argument, as to not only who came first, but also how and whether all the squirming ought to be sanctified.

The Greeks and Romans were into casual sex, no matter what the gender of the hole and pole. We worry about how it all ought to be legitimized. Big difference.

I stand firm (no pun intended, but take it as you will). California invented the argument. I doubt if the Greeks and Romans ever got any of this shit on the ballot. If I am wrong, I stand corrected.

To repeat. Personally, I don't give a shit what anybody does with his or her dick or trap, or how the law concerning a good lock-up ought to read. Why should I?

Happy tunes.

Re: "At Least They Agree on Something?" Pardon my French, but wh

Yeah, Lamont. I agree. But I'm biased. I am an ex-Marine, as you know, and I fought for "nothing" in Vietnam. We got negotiated out of our due (a victory, sooner or later...), and the negotiations were done in France, a land of great wine, metaphysical confusion, and a general lack of purpose. Still, we had to be told to leave, as opposed to being chased out by superior firepower, due to bad planning and a general lack of commitment. I believe there is a difference.

They may be able to out-talk us, but they'll never be able to out-gun us. I take a strange confidence from that thought.

People out there hate us. Fine. Just come out into the open, any field of fire within which we can get a few clean shots off.

I, like you, am getting sick of this shit. Everybody wants what we have, the freedom to complain publicly and then go home to a nice meal afterward, but they all still want to kill us for having the freedom to do the above.

Radical Islam. Now, what the hell is THAT supposed to mean? Hey, go pray to your own spook, and I'll do likewise to mine. Otherwise, leave me the fuck alone, or eat lead. Is that too much to ask?

The French apparently haven't evolved to the point where politics become a 9-5 job, and then you go home and live a life beyond the rhetorical bullshit.

We may be deluded, but (at least, so far...) we know the difference between work and play.

Happy tunes, all.

Well, technically I could but it may not be worth listening to . My musicianship, such as it was, consisted of studying the pipe organ, including JSB. I can still site read but that's about all that's left of my limited talent although who knows how far that may have gotten if the Roman Church's representatives hadn't revolted & traumatized me all those decades ago.

De Gaulle who was as well a man of action as an intellectual was treated by FDR like a second class "head of state" in exile, and he never fogot the treatment. Vichy was a disgrace but you should not forget that many French resistant fighters like Jean Moulin were tortured and lost their life at the hand of the Nazis and that the Catholic Church did try to protect Jewish children against the atrocities of the Nazis (Au Revoir les Enfants by Louis Malle).

As bad as Vichy collaboration with the Germans was for France it was not as bad and of the same nature and scale as having an Italian Mussolini running the country but nobody ever blamed the Italians in general for having a Duce. You just never hear about it while the whole French population is constantly reminded of its "collaboration" with the Nazis. Where was an Italian government in exile fighting the Nazis?? Where were the Italian freedom fighters??

Where did you learn history, Greek and all, anyway?

Now you're bitching about the Italians under Mussolini? I believe the Italians took care of Mussolini. The Italians are a little different than the French. Read, "Kaputt" by Curzio Malaparte more for enlightenment than pure fact. France has been around for a lot longer than America but I doubt seriously that America is going to do too much listening to the French for a long time to come. Just take care of our dead over there and we'll get along just fine.

Clifton: The great French generals know all about sending their men, down to entire generations, into open fields of fire. What a waste. They eat their young and want peace negotiations on their soil no matter where the action is taking place. As for me, I've come to understand and appreciate the power and principle of one-shot one-kill. We have the United States Marine Corps and people like Carlos Hathcock to thank for that.

Yeah, "they" hate America but they would have no one else on that wall for them. As much as they despise us they know there is no one else that will stand on that wall. Therein lies the problem. They can't do it themselves. They have to depend on us. That is the price they pay for their freedom and instead of living their lives in freedom they choose to have absolute contempt for the tortured and complete support for the torturer. It's their choice. Funny thing, freedom. Choice. It can come back and bite them on the ass. As far as I'm concerned "they" deserve nothing and will like it.

I exclude the people of the Netherlands from my contempt. They stood on that wall with us as a nation and today they have our dead in their backyards and they take care of them. Nameless families taking care of our dead buried beside their homes. One grave at a time. Each year they remember our dead as a nation. Their nation.

- Righteous american: was hanging and burning innocent black men for fun 50 years ago any better? Any memory of that? In 1789 The French population was living under the thumb of the aristocratie. In many ways it was justice. Is it justice dragging an innocent black man for fun behind a car? Was it you smiling on the picture?

The German were beaten in 1918 when France took back Alsace and Lorraine, defeated again in 1945 with the help of the Allies. That leaves the Germans with one victory in 1870. All those wars were fought with various ever so slightly changing alliances. France was never alone. Interestingly enough the French and the British were always on the same side. The Italians always picking the loser at the end.

Grosse, you say I am "wrong," like the Israelis. Huh? They are wrong because they shoot back? And, more often than not, hit what they aim at?

You say De Gaulle was an "intellectual." How so? The French have spun and elaborated a national philosophy out of the 18th Century concept of ennui. After all, it was a Frenchman who said, "...the only philosophical question worth considering is suicide." At least Camus resisted, so I give him applause for that...

I'm thinking like Bush? No. I'm thinking like an American veteran.

If we don't get negotiated out of Viet Nam, we win in less than a year. Basic military tactics and effective logistics. We got sold down the river by flapping tongues who believed their own bullshit. The guy hanging from the chopper should have timed his jump better -- hell, he was probably French.

They DO make great wine, though. Which just goes to show you -- even the clowns of the universe have to be able to do something right. After all, they are a subspecies of the human race, and all God's chilluns be good at somethin'. Great. Let them build the world's wines and leave politics, philosophy, and economics to people who can think beyond sundown.

Nothing like some good old French bashing to bring a smile to my face.
They do bring it on themselves , don't they ?

Although they do make some great wine they lost their monopoly on that a long time ago. Now their wines are overpriced and over rated , just like their culture.
And they never were great cooks, they stole it from the Vascos (Basques) who are more Spanish than French.

The Spanish invented mahonesa (mayonaisse) as well: think Isla de Mahon

The french are disliked and laughed at by the rest of europe, it's about time we caught on.

Grosse, did he kiss her properly, on her nether lips? Did she douche first? Was she the hag at the end of the bar?

(A guy goes into a bar. He notices a wizened, shriveled hag down at the far end. When the bartender asks for his order, he says, "Gimme a decent bourbon, neat, and I'll buy one for the old douche-bag down at the end." The bartender is offended. "What? You're a stranger here! You can't just come in here and insult one of my regular customers! She's as good as the Queen!"

"All right, all right," says the customer. "I apologize -- just gimme a bourbon and buy her a drink, for chrissakes."

The bartender brings him his drink and approaches the hag at the end of the bar. "What'll it be? Order anything you like -- it's on the gentleman over there."

"Great," says the hag. "I'll have a vinegar and water.").

Be careful how you answer this one.

Arguing written/recorded history and musing/analyzing it is a total waste of time.

Wars are fought for various reasons that the public are not aware of. These reasons are never written down and few people are aware of the real and true origins and reasons.

So stop wasting your time arguing over specifically created an orchestrated lies.

During The Terror my ancestor Frederic-Albert-Ebezener de Grosse Fatigue escaped the guillotine by hiding at his club on the Champs-Elysees in Paris, sort of.. In fact when they came looking for him at his club he was in bed with his mistress at the Plaza Athenee hotel next door av Montaigne and was warned by an alarm (they'd ring a bell whenever their wife came looking for them at the club).

In the 1900 the (life saving) system at the club was brought up to date with the latest technology (duplex). A wife would call the club and her call could be transfered directly to a bedroom a the Plaza; or the highly trained concierge would say gravely: " Mr de Grosse Fatigue is playing backgammon, he cannot be disturbed at the present time, he asked me to take a message."

3 days old grammatical and spelling mistakes cannot be edited; entire posts cannot be deleted or changed ever so slightly after only 3 days. In the past I deleted entire postings and pictures downloads because of this inability to control our destiny on this forum. I will not post again on this forum unless I have more editing control.

Well Monsieur Huge Tiredness, I share your concern but wonder if giving the moderator such an immediately effective ultimatum is fair considering outside help may need to be bought in to fiddle with the software. Consider this though. If the facility to edit posts is extended over an irrational time frame it becomes possible to alter a post in a manner that makes those apparently responding to it appear very foolish. Now, you wouldn't want that to happen to you, would you? Besides, if you make a big boo boo you can always add a post stating :- In a previous post I claimed the 'Conrad Research 300X' was the most transparent player I've ever heard. Actually I meant to say 'Conrad 300A'. Or somesuch.

Three days is a fair amount of time, I think. If you are concerned about spelling errors, I suggest you be more careful. If you'd like to alter an opinion, you have the option to create a new post.

You got your answer. Live up to your threat and don't post anymore. In other words wave the white flag and get out of here.

Yes, IMHO, three days is INSANELY fair. Over the top, IMHO. it effectively allows for the editing of history, which is not a good thing.

If I'm an idiot and call someone an asshole, in a particularly vulgar manner, then I'm responsible for it.

I don't think I should have the ability to fix my own history to sanitize my foolish behaviour. Some forums have a 1/2 hour edit window, or even less. I don't like that much, I'd prefer 24hrs..but well, they instituted that rule for the very same reason that even the three days allowed here can be abused, which is people changing history and or sanitizing themselves, with regards to what they post.

Those sorts of things are part and parcel of everything we hate about corporations and governments - so why allow it here? Too much 1984 for me.

Anyway, Grosse, I like your posts. Don't go away.

Lamont? I like yer posts too, overall, but on the other hand I like Grosse too, so: GET STUFFED.

I think that Grosse is misunderstood just a tad. I think he's a guy who's seen too much of the world and is more than a little bit world weary, and is just trying to hang onto his humour amongst all the cynicism that the world individually thrusts upon us all. That's just my take.

But folks like DUP? Not so simple. He never ever got the point, not even once - in my recollection.

Or can we all just simply go and listen to some bodacious tunes in our own rooms - instead?

That's a joke, yes? DUP gets "it" far more than most people including you. At least DUP knows that "fiberglass in corners" is valuable and needed for good acoustics.

Amen.
Wonder what Kirkegaard or Jung quote he will come up with now before putting his other foot in his internet mouth?

What??? Are you on crack?? DUP had always got to the point. He made several. I'll reiterate:

1. You need big drivers and lots of them to move air in order to reproduce realistic sound

2. Magic cables are crap

3. Vinyl is not hi-fi. It has too many issues to address

4. DSD is the digital gold standard.

5. Pro electronics are usually better made and better sounding than audiophile boutique electronics

Should I go on? How many points have you made?

We do need DUP back, it was, IMO, a mistake to ban him.

You guys do realize that if The Establishment brings back DUP he is just going to piss on your shoes and tell you its raining. Then I come and support him. It's a vicious cycle of depraved indifference.
