Just getting started

Hi everyone, my wife and I decided we want to get ourselves a stereo system. I mentioned this to a friend and pointed me in the direction of the Fatman Trinity thing with the iPod dock. Our needs are this, we want to get a turntable, be able to play the radio and have it sound good. I like the idea of of the tube amp so I'd like to start there. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome to the Stereophile forum!

What budget do you have?

Digital, satellite or regular FM radio?

What is the room like where you will be listening?

What are your music and listening preferences?

With what you have said so far, you will need a tube integrated amp, a turntable, a phono preamp, a tuner, and loudspeakers. Your friend mentioned an iPod dock; do you intend to have a digital source?

For a tube sound, the Jolida JD1501 hybrid integrated amplifier has a tube preamp section and ample power from a solid state power amp section. I thought it sounded good.

For an over the air analog tuner, I'm partial to vintage tuners. many good ones can be picked up on eBay, AudiogoN or Craigslist. This will help find what you are looking for: http://www.fmtunerinfo.com/
