I didn't really like them at $1000/pair when compared to other offerings at that price and I don't know if I like them any better at $730/pair. I guess I'd have to listen to them again. But that's just my ears, others have spoke well of them. The L890s were a little better in the mid and upper bass, which by the way are the same price at Buy.com.
Dan,
I also read Bob's, and a dozen other, reviews of the L880 and L890. Having owned a set of JBLs, back in the early '70s I was curious as to what they sounded like now.
The only dealer near me was Tw--t-r and the set-up was a universal player into a 7 channel system...not ideal for a 2 channel enthusiast. Anyway, I took my test cd and gave them a listen. They sounded good but nothing outstanding.
The sales guy assured me these speakers sounded much better with good 2 channel gear. Practically all the reviews I read stated the same thing...with the right electronics both the 880 and 890 can be most impressive.
For $630/pr I would surely make the purchase.
