The January 2015 issue is here!

We kick off the New Year with the "Loudspeaker issue"— there are seven models reviewed at all price levels, from Vienna Acoustics, Sjöfn, Monitor Audio, Wharfedale, DeVore Fidelity, Revel, and KEF, a review of an affordable subwoofer from SVS, and an interview with veteran speaker designer Michael Kelly of Aerial Acoustics.

Steve Guttenberg kicks off the issue by explaining why he prefers recorded music to live concerts, while A-list mastering engineer Bob Katz explains why Steve 's analysis of the sound of modern recordings in his November 2014 "As We See It" was misguided, if not actually wrong. Veteran singer-songwriter Jackson Browne opens up to Robert Baird, Michael Fremer enthuses over a new LP player from Pear Audio, Michael Lavorgna auditions network players from Auralic and Simaudio, and John Atkinson auditions two very different-sounding speakers that measure very similarly. Happy holidays, everyone!

How that same reviewer and a number of reviewers could have extolled the seemingly unlikely low end response of the Clue at various audio shows?

OTOH, the designer's complaint about the measurement techniques employed by "Stereophile" can't be the answer...because every other speaker gets measured by the same simulated pi space, including a couple of others which are designed to be placed very close to boundaries.

Started reading it last night but dozed off, sorry to hear about Dudley's pest problem hope this can be corrected and soon, and glue traps are so archaic and cruel. Noticed one of the ads had the Pro-ject Phono Box RS phono preamp which contains Decca and RIAA switchable equalization that I had only seen on Zandens and other stratospheric products. I do hope Stereophile can test this promising product and soon. Merry Christmas to all!

..Vienna Acoustics continues to use those clear plastic cones. Even with the ribs, the resonances are terrible!
