inner and outer LP sleeves

Many of my LPs have old yellowed paper inner sleeves, or sleeves that have printing on them (e.g. lyrics). I'd like to preserve them but store the records in something else. I also want to preserve what's left of the outsides of my albums.

Are polypropylene or polyethylene inner and outer sleeves safe to use, or are there better and safer materials? An example of the polypro and polyethylene bags I'm talking about are these outers and these inner sleeves from Sleeve City. There are also some paper sleeves of various kinds on the inner-sleeve page. Are these preferred over the poly sleeves, or is it the other way around?

It looks like both of the examples you linked to seem like decent choices. You might wish to examine a sample (some LP sleeves have the weld at the bottom with an 1/8" bit of excess plastic that won't sit exactly flush with a shelf). Look for a sleeve with no seam on the bottom. I prefer polypropylene over polyethylene because it is clearer.

I have used inner sleeves for 20+ years. And to tell you the truth I dont see any benefits to the poly sleeves over the paper ones. I had over 1000 Lps at least 600 of them I had bought sleeves for. Looking back, I think that it was a waste of money.

Do you mean that you feel there is no advantage to the poly sleeves over whatever sleeve the album originally came with, or no advantage over aftermarket acid-free paper sleeves?

One reason for my wanting to use different sleeves is to preserve the originals, which often have printing (lyrics and/or images). Plus, some of my original inner sleeves are in poor condition, and need to be replaced anyway.
