If you like Stanko give a listen to...

If you like Tomasz Stanko give a listen to the Italian trumpet player Paolo Fresu. The recording by Carla Bley "The Lost Chords Find Paolo Fresu" on the Watts/ECM label is a good place to start.

In addition you may also enjoy some of Stanko earlier recordings, such as the 1997 recording on ECM "Litania: The Music of Krzysztof Komeda". Another CD filled with beautiful and haunting music. And of course don't forget to try any of the recordings Stanko made with Komeda back in the 19609's such as "Astigmatic".

More for my list. Thanks jf.

By the way, I have also been recommended Invisible by Peter Epstein and Belonging by Keith Jarret et al. Any opinions?

The Peter Epstein I'm not familiar with I can second the recommendation for "Belonging", which is as much as a Jan Garabek album as it is a Keith Jarret album. It's an oldie from 1974 and one of the earlier ECM recordings.

Stanko is dazzling, if a bit same-y on some of later ECMs. You hit the highest point, I think, with the Komeda tribute album. I own a lot of Komeda's 1960s work and can't recommend most of it highly enough.
