What's the best turntable for under $400? I do not have a preamp nor phono input on my receiver. If there's a $300 TT, I can purchase a preamp. HELP PLEASE!
Check out the Music Hall USB-1. Nice unit for $249 and has a built in phono stage. You can get better units, but not at that price. it will be adequate to plug right into your current receiver. This is a modest investment that will be more than good enough and will not harm any vinyl you buy.
Other thing is that you should seriously consider getting a spin clean record cleaner for any used vinyl you buy or old vinyl you have and a velvet and carbon fiber brush to keep your records clean moving forward.
I finally got a call back from the guy with the Yamaha gear! Going to pick them up tonight...fingers crossed they are in good working condition. My daughter and I are so very excited. I was leaning toward the MH TT, so I am glad that after hours of research, I had actually came up with a worthy selection.
Got the Yamaha and it's amazing. I do need a better needle. I'm leaning toward the Shure M97xe, but also am thinking about the Ortof on 2M red. What are your thoughts?
I would call needledoctor. Discuss what kind of music you like and what you are considering and they will guide you to the best cartridge for you in your budget range.
From what I can tell, it's lacking a platter, tone arm counterweight and heads he'll. I'm curious, are platters model specific, and if so, where the heck do you find one? I've searched and came up empty. Do I have to wait for one to show up on Craigslist?
