Wow! Now I want to go to the old days.

It's a shame I was never there.

My dealer is an awesome place for stereo, though. The big TV doesn't have a place in either of the demo rooms, but instead sits outside. The "big room" has a projector, but the room is usually not configured with more than two speakers, unless, of course, someone asks. The "small room" (my hang) has no video source of any kind, just a healthy complement of integrated amplifiers, 2-way speakers, turntables, and affordable CD players. Huzzah.

Boooooo to USB turntables.

iPods, though, are kind of cool. I use mine as a source very infrequently (it sounds like garbage compared to my CD player). As a portable device, though, it's great! I have a big digital music library (mostly Apple Lossless), and I can throw about 150 songs on my 4GB 'pod.

I just wanted to let you know that whippersnappers like me still do the whole, you know, high-fidelity thing.

Erik, glad to hear that you young guys will keep the hifi flame burning. I was begining to get worried. Basically now I purchase my cds at Borders book store since Tower Records went out of business. I do know that they can be purchased on line (CD connection, Elusive Disc, etc.). I love to sit down and listen to music on my system. It seems that nowadays most people regard music as something to listen to in the background while you do something else. Of course, I do think that we audiophiles are a rare breed.

I do most of my CD shopping at Borders downtown. Amazon is good for stuff I can't find there. If you're not a Borders Rewards member, you should sign up. Sometimes they have sweet deals like "40% off all single CDs (limit 3)" or the similar "Any single CD $11.99 (limit 3)". That's usually when I buy SACDs because a ~$20 disc can suddenly be priced very reasonably.

I'm chomping at the bit for a Rega P3, though! There are 3 used record stores (that I know of) within easy walking distance of my apartment. My dealer is also just a couple blocks away. Life is good, and getting better by the day.

Yes, sadly (proudly?), we are a rare breed. An elite force, perhaps. I love my mom, but it pains me that the Paradigm Atoms she picked out have taken up permanent residence on a table behind the couch. She recently got my NAD C525BEE as a hand-me-down, but is still using that atrocious Sony receiver to drive the Paradigms. I think maybe she deserves a 3020 for her birthday. Nothing says "I love you" like good sound.
