I was not breast fed by my mother indeed
a big disappointment so early in life

My mother put me on the regiment of Prince Charles after reading Paris Match

She handed me to nanies and in their care I recovered nicely
I'd suck any breast you put in front of me

If he does leave, how will we know he isn't dead?

Maybe we need a special forum for people who leave in a huff to post in so we can be sure they are not dead.

Oh please!

I remember having lunch at Brooks in London when a member fired to a guest sitting accross the table:

"I don't like your accent"

Frenchmen love mixed parties bringing together artists, writers, musicians, whatever (including demi-mondaines), having fun. This is the reason so much great art was produced in France. A recipe for good bouillabaisse, too

In Great Britain no one will talk to you at a party, answer you, if they don't know who you are first (holding their hands) and where you come from. Not surprisingly they have portraits of their dogs and their horses hanging in their living room.

I'd say on this board, they could ask "holy moley, batman, what started the NON-griefer epidemic" when you and I showed up. Maybe even John C, too. I mean, when they banned Ethan, the non-griefer community shrunk by at least 1/4.

Living in Mayfair !!!

One of the most expensive places in the world, a one bedroom studio going for at least a mil. A cynical person ( unlike myself of course ) would point to the extortionate profit margins of the hifi companies enabling a designer to live so high on the hill

I would never make this connection though, just saying someone might !!

It was in 1976. Things were cheaper then, compared to the American $. I got $100/per day and the room. The office was on Bruton St., walking distance, just past Berkeley Sq.. Fellow consultants said that I was working too cheap. Just shows what people actually know about the real world.

$100 a day in 1976 was a very good salary !!

My first job in 1982 i was making $40 a week, never mind a day !!

Im very comfortable with my exposure to the real world, im sure there are a lot of people who have seen a lot more but ive seen my fair share. I live in the states and i love the states but its very difficult to argue that Americans are the worst travellers in the world !! if you can even get them out of the US to begin with.

Why can't you say where you lived in Europe?

It is just the language barrier in France
Use the proper outfit, don't take the whole side walk like your peers when strolling in Paris, don't talk too loud and you'll be treated well
People sniff you head to toe like a dog in France, they are very judgemental, but when they like you they don't care who you are, and they are very loyal to their friends

The british are fun only after they are drunk (like the americans)

Occidental art is Italian and French, German to some degree (classical music)
Art is embeded in the culture of those countries

Now what kind of art did the british produced??
Their furniture is Chinese furniture
They have dogs and horses portraits
Give us an example of a memorable dish you had there
They are barbarians

you v i s i t e d

it is not the same thing as living
spending three years or more in each
learning the language
playing with local kids
soaking in a Japanese tub with a whole naked Japanese familly living next door while my parents were entertaining guests
(entertaining myself with a vengeance- very proud of that)

when we came back from Japan my little sister
raised by Japanese nanies spoke only Japanese
I had to translate
like I was translating to my mother when we were going shopping in Tokyo

Well said, Grosse Fatigue. I learned your suggestions in 1965, when I first stayed in Paris, on my own. I SAW other Americans, and I then knew why we are considered 'barbarians' , because we are. I have also made many errors in protocol in Tokyo, and have been embarrassed because of it. It seemed impossible in Japan, not to make errors.
Now I understand your 'complaint, 'Grosse Fatigue' of many people on this website. They are virtually clueless.

John, did you learn how to bow in Japan?

Depending on the age or the social status of the person you want to show respect to you have to look at the person in the eyes to make sure you bow lower or a bit higher, accordingly

A 45 degree bow looking at your feet can mean that you are asking for favors, so be carefull

A nod of the head means the guy is a joke

Now what about hand kissing in France:

Standing straight, not bowing, you raise the hand of the lady to your lips and kiss it, wet kiss ok in France, then you can have a second take and kiss her wrist delicately while showering her with complimemts (french method), still holding her hand (that you don't really want to release when the lady is pretty).

So, which one of the two is the actual Narcissus and which is the reflection?

Geez, two prima donnas kvetching about how underappreciated they are here, but neither seems inclined to end his residence.

Maybe they will just melt into each other and we'll be left with Grosse Curl. (I know we already have John Fatigue.)

Yes, Narcissus would assume (suppose, consider) that I would worry about my image in his eyes.

Narcissus would be wrong...hence, less of a genius.

To think I was attacking his obvious genius rather than his boorish demeanor would also be expected.

Even less genius.

John, genius lacking insight is more a 'savant' thing. I'll toss you a bone and go with 'savant,' as in 'syndrome.'

Hey, guys, maybe you'd be more adored at www.baskinmyglory.com's forums. That is, if you were genius enough to find them.
