Could you be putting them in upside-down?

Both layers (SACD and CD) play from the same side, using lasers of different wavelengths. They are not double-sided, like some DVDs.

the marantz cd player i have is a cd changer,model number cc4003.the hybrid discs,this time i'm swingin' by dean martin and point of no return by frank sinatra are from mobile fidelity.according to the inner sleeve notes,mofi states that the hybrids can be played on any cd player though not on my marantz changer.
