Just started tinkering with this, but I like FLAC or Apple Lossless, which both handle metadata well.
I agree. FLAC is great: lossless and easily tagged.
The process of tagging is a major pain, regardless.
Thanks guys! What are you using for playback? My Windows Media Player does not recognize the FLAC files, I did not think of trying iTunes. And the three records I have done at 24/96 sound great, barely digital, but playing back the aif files is far from seamless. Maybe I should switch over the the FLAC.

Well, I use Linux, so Amarok. I'm a little rusty on Windows, but I'm pretty sure you can install codecs that allow Media Player to play FLAC files (try here http://flac.sourceforge.net/download.html). Also, WinAmp, I believe, has native FLAC support, but I hate that player (then again, I'm not fond of Windows Media Player either).
I use Foobar to play back FLAC files. It is a great free program.

While you can add all sorts of bells and whistles to it, I find the base program perfectly fine.
