The Clearaudio Concept V2 is $250 at Needle Doctor. I would recommend that.
When I had the 2.2 I used that cartridge for some time and liked it.
I am now using the MMF-7 with a Micro Benz Ace cartridge, but the price on
that cartridge has gone way up due to the Swiss exchange rate.
for replying. I will definitely look into this clearaudio concept V2. so it has good bass response and is nice sounding overall? i just wanted to add that i had the rega RP1 TT and it had the ortofon OM-5e cartridge and it had poor bass. I'm not sure if this was a function of the cartridge or the TT. even though the blue is prolly way better than the OM-5e, it still made me a lil weary. thanks again for introducing a new alternative for me.
when I said it made me a lil weary, I meant the prospect of going back to an ortofon cartridge again.
The Clearaudio cartridge had good bass when I used it on the 2.2. I liked that combination a lot, but I sold it when I moved, because I already had the MMF-7 at the newer house.
I have never been an Ortophon fan, personally.
I actually tried a Grado cartridge first, but it could not be used because there is a grounding issue that causes the unshielded Grado cartridge to have a HUGE hum with the 2.2; incompatible.
The Benz Micro Silver is $425 from Needle Doctor, and that is definitely very good also.
Don't neglect the phono preamp; the bass could be an issue there.
I was using the Musical Fidelity V-LPS with that setup, and it is very good.
...the musical fidelity V-LPS 2 as well.
