I'm new to your forum but have enjoyed reading many of your topics.
I'm currently having trouble with my 2002 Marantz SR7200 surround receiver and I’m looking to see if anyone with some expertise who could steer me in the right direction on my repair. I'm attempting to fix the problems myself without any luck so far. let me explain.
Problems: While listening to an audio source I'm hearing an intermittent crackle and popping sounds out of all 6 speakers with random speakers cutting in and out during any audio format playback (i could be using it in stereo mode and hear intermittent crackling coming out of the center channel which should be silent). This affects the powered subwoofer as well with loud bursts of sound then cutting out. It does not matter whether it is a digital or analog source or what volume level it is.
One test I did was to turn the amp on and plug an audio headphone jack cable into the analog cd input. I then touched the audio jack and heard a buzz (as you would expect) then the system started crackling and popping on its own even with no sound input.
I have ruled out that the problem is with the speakers (cambridge soundworks bookshelf speakers as well as other CS satellite surround speakers) by testing them on another amp and it would be hard to believe that the speaker wire is to blame as I have unplugged and replugged them into my marantz amp with no changes in behavior.
I'm convinced the problem is with the Marantz amplifier electronics so my first move was to replace the main system capacitors (15000uf 71v) which has had no effect.
I’m not sure what I should look for next. Should I keep replacing capacitors or is there another area that would be an obvious culprit of my problems?
Thanks so much for any assistance! - Jon
