This will probably sound stupid, but if you haven't already, disconnect power from the wall and let the receiver set for a couple of minutes and then plug it back in. Most receivers these days have reset switches that kick in if the amp gets too  hot. You might also have a manual reset switch and fuses that could have fried.

I actually got it going again mostly by doing a default settings/microprocessor reset- only thing now is that "CD" RCA inputs seem to be having issue along with both optical inputs on the back.  Optical in on the front (3) seems to be ok.  It might be my cable though it seems twitch I'm going to get a new one today and see if that makes any difference.

My Marrantz SR7005 stays hot when the power is off. Also there is a little light on the bottom left hand side. I think there must be a amp powered. How can I turn it off?

RTFM about standby mode.

I have a 2 year old Denon AVR that inexplicably stopped recognizing my ipod. I did a hard reset on it and then everything OK again. Don't know why these receivers do this stuff. Also I don't have the wifi activated on it because either I don't remember the password (it's rediculously long) or it requires a character in it that doesn't seem to exist in the flat screen keyboard display. I think it's #. Anyway, can anyone tell me if it's bad that the AVR isn't getting the software updates that it's supposed to download from the internet?

The firmware updates can have a big impact if you use Pandora or other features. On two separate occasions in the past 4 years Pandora has made changes that render the service incompatible with Denon and Marantz equipment. It is very frustrating but D&M will work on a solution. Also, AirPlay and a variety of other services do get periodic updates.

Finally, I found that periodically the software on my Denon would just stop working and I would need to do a hard reset of the system. This purge at the memory and sets it back to any factory settings, eliminates password, etc... This is way more substantial than unplugging the device which solves a lot of minor issues and it sounds like this is what you may have done. I have found that as firmware updates come in, reboots tend to happen less frequently and the system becomes more stable.

The one issue D&M equipment seems to have is that the software is consistently a bit buggy. If you aren't having software issues with it freezing too frequently and you aren't using streaming services then firmware updates aren't an issue. Also, be aware that if you haven't done a firmware update in a while, I find that it hangs almost every time and I have to do a reset of the processor. It just never works smoothly for me. This is on my Denon AVR 1912 and my Marantz CR-510.

I tried again and did get the AVR to link up with my wifi. Then I directed it to search for firmware updates but it didn't seem to get any. The only thing I do id youtube, but my TV is a smart tv so it logs on to the internet all by itself and the AVR isn't involved. What is annoying is my password for my ATT wifi is, like 15 characters long and it has letters, numbers, symbols, all this bullshit that there is no reason for at all. And why don't I have an edit function on this site?

Spend $20 on a router and set up your own WIFI and ditch the ATT WIFI. Then you can set your own password.

@David Harper:
If you connect your AVR via Ethernet, you'll neither have to remember your password, nor purchase a router. DONE.

You'll also be able to stream music directly to it and donate your whyPod to Goodwill during Christmastime! (Assuming they accept it.)

BTW, RTFM every once in a while. If you lost it (along with your router password which was probably written in it), the manual is available for download on the Denon site.

the manual is as usefull as tits on a bull. It doesn't explain anything coherently and it reads like it was written by some Japanese guy who doesn't understand english. So please, don't tell me RTFM again. I'm at least as intelligent as you are, trust me.

...says the guy who didn't realize that he had a USB port on the front of component until I looked at the manual FOR him.
