I'm new to the world of hi-fi (as well as this website), and, as such, I'm looking for a relatively cheap set-up to get me started. Nothing fancy, but I want maximum bang-for-the-buck. As of now, I'm thinking of getting a headroom bithead headphone amp (which I'll be able to use with my laptop, but aslo with my ipod) and a set of Audio Technica ATH-A700's (or possibly ATH-M50's). Just want some general feedback. Will this set-up provide me with the kind of high quality audio that I want? I'm open to suggestions for other headphones ~$150, or if there's a better option to get me reasonably good sound quality under $400 then I'd be interested in hearing about it.
Good Entry-Level Headphone Set-Up?

I should also mention that this set-up will be primarily used for listening to music (from light rock to harder edged metal; no rap). Keeping that in mind, I'll probably also use it for movies, etc. on my computer. I'm also a musician, so the headphones will see some studio use (although I doubt that will make any difference). Another consideration for the headphone amplifier (which is where I'm virtually cluesless) is the FiiO E7/E9 combo, which I've heard gives some pretty good on-a-budget sound with a decent set of cans.
