The Harman-Kardon 3490 is a no-brainer for a great stereo receiver.
It has many many features, good sound quality, plenty of power to drive any speakers, and is only around $300. It will last you a long time, even as you build up and improve your other gear.
The amps you mentioned are very limiting and not good for the money IMO.
The Mordaunt-Short speakers are very good and so are the Focals. The Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 amd 10.2 are also good.
For serious bass you need a 12-inch subwoofer with a lot of power.
The size of the room and the volume you want make a ton of difference in what would be a good choice.
I appreciate the help and I will look into the H/K receiver and save a little more. I think I'll go with the Mordaunt- Short bookshelfs and my rooms medium sized but if I were to put a sub in there it would be under my desk, so it would have to probably be 8 or 10 inches. If u have good sub suggestions I'm all eyes and keyboard.
