For the folk who think Obama has fixed the recession

Or even more amusing, that the 'stimulus' worked...

Worst numbers since Reagan's second year!

How dumb is someone to think these things change as quickly as the idiot teabag crowd corws about?

Not a rhetorical question, either.

Out of all fairness a president volunteers for the economy when he takes the oath. It becomes his problem. I think Bush II had a recession when he came on board as well. Presidents don't serve long enough for everybody to go back in time and blame it on some past president. Hell, Carter could be responsible for this shit for all I know.

Nope. The recession hit after shrub took office. He inherited 6 years of unprecedented growth, low unemployment, and low inflation. A combination thought to be impossible before it happened under the Clinton administration.

Reagan did not spend 3/4 of a trillion dollars 'fixing' the economy. He also did not promise job creation while not creating any except in government.

Are you aware that the total tax revenue from all sources is only about twice the stimulus spending...now add in bailouts, the Omnibus pork bill and all the promises not to mention the expected cost of the health care scam and you have trillions in deficit spending...

Things are not getting better, just pausing for breath. The nations productive folk are waiting, watching, and to a growing degree, opting for the John Galt route...let the non hackers pay the bills for a while.

Actually, that is a whopper...

"According to the Commerce Department, the economy grew (albeit slowly) in both the third quarter and the fourth quarter of 2000, by 0.6 percent and 1.1 percent, respectively. GDP did decline in the first three quarters of 2001. So Bush would have been accurate in saying that "when I was inaugurated, the economy was three weeks into the first of three consecutive quarters in which GDP declined."

So, nothing Bush did or could have done had anything to do with the 2001 recession..sorry.

Nope it's not a whopper it is simply a fact. I said nothing about who was to blame, just stated the facts. We weren't in an actual recession until March 2001.

Re: For the folk who think Obama has fixed the recession

1) I will look for a link, there is an article looking at the "business cycle," which looked back at the economy for the past century and a half and there is basically a seven to eleven year up/down cycle that has been remarkably steady regardless of the party in Congress or the White House - lots of luck of the draw for judging Presidents.

You can Google Clement Juglar to check several sources.

2) I'll leave it to the zealots to argue what may have diminished the sizes of the peaks and troughs.

3) Even with the Shrub/Obama bailout, our deficit will be in line with most EU countries and within World Bank / IMF (BS) accounting. It's too bad that Shrub/Obama felt the need to do all this, but it ain't the tragedy the teabaggers harp on. (Notice, when Shrub did it, the teabaggers didn't peep.)

Re: For the folk who think Obama has fixed the recession

There will not be any money left for the country to spend in a few years or, more likely, what there is will be worth little because of the massive inflation we have laid the grounds for...

ON the plus side, folk with fixed mortgages will be paying about zip in real money...renters will take a massive hit.

Let's see:

Obama:Roosevelt
Depression:Depression
Dust storms:Dust Storms
External Threats:External Threats
Insane opposition:Insane opposition

Now let's see somebody argue that 9-11 was Pearl Harbor.

Yip yip. The lot of you are nuts, on both sides.

The only thing Obama has in common with Roosevelt is a knee jerk desire to spend money he does not have and a casual disregard for the Constitution...

Yikes! Where were you during the previous administration?

Dick and Shrub shredded as much Constitution as they could get away with.

Now, if you were complaining about casual disregard for the Constitution for both administrations, I'd give you some credibility. As it is, we know you are one of the angry white man tantrum crowd who is seething over your reounding trouncing at the polls, nothing more.

Were you howling about balanced budgets, deficit spending, the economy, and unemployment during Reagan's second year in office? I bet not.

Besides sitting by the Hi Fi listening to AM talk radio during the day, there has to something you could be doing, man!

No, them doing it makes it so!

Rendition, torture, warrantless surveillance, opacity at every turn...the name "Patriot Act" alone tells us, eh?

Put that with the "Homeland" sloganeering and its propaganda straight out of 70 years ago from the brownshirt, red and black accessory crowd.

I bet you think Saddam was part of the 9/11 plot, too.

(I give Shrub some credit for the WMD hysteria/mistake - Saddam acted like he had 'em. I leave it to you how dismally Shrub/Dick failed at vetting the information. Ture, utter failure, but you can decide if you think he was doing his best and acting in inept good faith or inept bad faith.)

Angry White man (me) says:

"Come all ye young rebels
and list while I sing
For the love of one's country
Is a terrible thing
It banishes fear
With the speed of a flame
And makes us all part of
The Patriot Game"

Of course, in George W. Bushleagueland, it's more like
"The sun on the meadow is summery warm
The stag through the forest runs free"

Whatever.

Anyone who claims that 'W' didn't shred more constitution than any other president in the last 100 years (although I will give a non-President, named McCarthy, credit for trying hard) is either not looking or trying to revise history.

Who did more damage...Hoover's mess would have been over in a few years...Roosevelt's needed war to recover a decade later...
