Re: Finally some right-wing thinking in Stereophile!

Hi, Alain!

I wonder if you are a resident here, because both the right wing and left wing hate France.

In fact, it's one of the few things here that are bipartisan.

As for Apple bashing, it's usually frowned upon purely because it's seen as being too pro-Microsoft. I'm not sure if it qualifies as left wing or right wing. Mostly, hating Apple is just a sign of someone having too much time on his hands. Apple bashing is the computer equivalent of AM talk radio...so maybe it is right wing!

*Goofing around disclaimer*

You know, as I think about it, Jadis is the White Witch in the Chronicles of Narnia. As such, that Hi Fi company risks having the American right wing threaten some form of stupid behavior over such a blatantly transparent attempt to import Satan and the occult into America.

Since the idiot thumpers have not yet done this, it must mean that there is a vast right wing conspiracy to protect French business interest here.

Maybe the right wing only hates poor French people.

Nope, I'm based in the tiny and silly Kingdom of Belgium. Yeah, everyone hates the French I guess, but Ken's wording expressed the right-wing cliched view.

I see. Ken is some kind of golden-eared Rush Limbaugh, right?

I wouldn't be surprised if Cheney had the Jadis factory bombed. Maybe Bin Laden bought some Jadis stuff someday? There *must* be a connection.

That's a nice theory.

Re: Finally some right-wing thinking in Stereophile!

Accusing Ken Kessler of being "right wing" indicates a problem of reading comprehension. Accusing him of thinking misses the point. His realm is "feelings" - the stock in trade of the left wing. He hates and he loves. Read his rambling effort again and you'll see your mistake.

Whether they should have or not, for years music lovers have been trying to find good ways to involve their computers in the management and delivery of their recordings. When some of them have come to me expressing frustration I've offered one piece of advice, "Get a Mac". That has been, and continues to be the best advice. If you doubt me, an admitted amateur, ask JA.

I thought it especially interesting that within a few minutes time today I read both Kesslers mindless ranting and a release on the MacUser (UK) site indicating that the latest version of the program used to enter recordings on the iTunes data base converts the music to Apple Lossless format - full Red Book but less costly in terms of storage/transmit time. Could be that the Satanic Jobs has in mind offering a better quality of reproduced sound to the iTunes customer? Why do you suppose a guy like him would want to do that?

Re: Finally some right-wing thinking in Stereophile!

You do realize, that it was the FRENCH who helped form this country, if you check history, the FRENCH supplied money and arms for the revolutionists to fight the British!!! DuPont set up a gun powder plant in the U.S. to supply gun powder (possibly to both sides) If not for the FRENCH, there is no U.S.A. Don't get the French bashing at all. And yet we claim Britian as an ally? We fought them, not the French!!! Duh, the world is full of bizzare hipocrisys...Marie Curie, hmmmm, she discovered many things. The FRENCH also bailed out NISSAN, Nissan is a FRENCH auto maker now, Le' NISSAN, without the FRENCH many things wouldn't be...not like GERMANS of course, but the FRENCH did many things.. Your eggs don't stick du tu le' TEFLON (PTFE) le duPont. And ain't that some MAGIC insulation for MAGIC wire? Le' imposible!!!! Viva La FRANCE, they pioneered the magic polymer for Le magic' wire...

A Belgian, eh?

Is it absurd that the right wings changes the name of French fries to "Freedom Fries"? Someone should have clued them in to changing the name to "Belgian Fries", since a Belgian guy invented them.

I guess they're too stupid for that.

That's correct. And I can also recall the United States saving France's ass a couple of times last century and all we asked for was a place to bury our dead. We have military graveyards all over their country to prove it. Does anyone know of any French military graveyards in America? Yeah, France helped us during our War of Independence. Now, they piss on our soldiers' graves. I think we paid France back for their help more than enough.

Sort of like today's American liberals relating themselves to Thomas Jefferson? If Thomas Jefferson were here today and saw what so-called American liberals were saying in his name he would never stop throwing up.

Didn't the USA liberate Belgium from Nazi occupation? Of course, I'm sure many Belgians think Americans trashed Bastogne when they were completely surrounded by the Nazis during The Bulge. "Nuts!"

British Columbia. Famous for the author of which the movie, "The Bear" was based on, which I read recently. The author that loved British Columbia so much that he retired in Michigan. Now, if I could just remember that writer's name.

That's a remarkably short summary of a rather complex story. The slightly longer version is that America waited 4-5 years, then noticed that Russia was in the process of defeating Nazi Germany and might then keep the whole of Europe under Russian rule, so Uncle Same sent its poor black guys to get killed on behalf of their rich white leaders, telling them they would beat the shit out of these Nazis anyway. The rest is history. For the full version, I'd recommend a decent history book, or maybe "South Park" did its own summary someday, like they did about the birth of America
PS: my uncle remembers liberation time for getting the shit beaten out of him by my granddad after he smoked cigarettes offered by the GIs ; but yeah, America was very much loved here, back in those days.

I don't know your age, AlainR, but I suspect you're still a bit wet behind the ears and the rest of us will need to be patient with you until you grow up. My uncle, who toured much of Europe with a fellow named George Patton was neither poor nor black and his personal recollections of that "trip" were vastly different from what you are putting forth.

Your most recent post is, however, useful in understanding the statements you made which got this discussion started. It is clear now that nearly every political position taken by a sane person will fall to the right of yours. I wish you the best when your eyes open. Meanwhile you might try talking less and listening more. There is nothing to be gained by pursuading those who might again need to be called to your aid that you're just not worth the effort.

Gentlemen, gentlemen, gentlemen. Let us be reasonable. Belgium gave us the waffle and the endive. France gave us Triangle speakers, Chateau Petrus, Renault, and Chirac. America gave us the credit card, Bill Gates, and 12 years in the Bushes. I could go on and on, and usually do. A politician is a politician. Buck Fush. Clock Chirac. Axe Albert (is he still around?). Left, right, center, wacko. It doesn't matter. Some poor bastard with a gun and 50 pounds of C-4 always has to do clean-up when the rhetoric stops. Me? I love EVERYBODY! At least, 'til I sober up.

Hi, Alain.

I can help with Clifton.

Imagine you are sitting in a Belgian pub with all of us and Clifton is holding his 6th empty liter-mug of your finest ale, which he would have been buying in rounds for the house.

Keep imagining that whatever you say, Clifton will get a big shit-eating grin, take his non-mug hand off his johnson for a change, grab you by one shoulder, and laugh and disagree with whatever it was you just said...even if you had just told him money was a good thing.

If you really wanna get to Clifton, ask him how, as an audiophile of many decades, he made the decision to purchase Dynaudio speakers for his "system of a lifetime."

Clifton...

Nearly all blacks during WWII were segregated into support units though there were a few all black units that shared in the fighting. Support units support fighting units. You are so full of shit it's coming out your ears. And it isn't "Uncle Same". It's "Uncle Sam". Fact, remains if it wasn't for the USA and Britain all of Western Europe would be working as forced labor for the Nazis. And yes, the United States supported Great Britain for years before sending fighting troops to help defeat the Germans. And this was only after Pearl Harbor. Even then FDR had a Europe first policy. Seems we planned to take our time with the Japanese and help out Europe first. Even though it was Japan that attacked the USA. The USA helped Europe first. Get it? Now the Europeans can hate the USA all they want. But the USA didn't help start two World Wars that killed millions of people. The USA just helped finish both of them. Just so some Europeans wouldn't be bastard children of German soldiers. The Statue of Liberty was given to the USA for a reason. And it is still standing up. Right in Europe's face.

I don't understand how you can have the writing ability of a kid in kindergarten and yet know so much about American history and politics. Stick to audio equipment. Rather buying audio equipment. It's the only thing you can accomplish. And that's not hard with a salesman pointing out the "Hi-Fi" label on it. DUP is a perfect example of why Democrats have had such a tough time since 1994. They have to embrace this type of moron to get out the vote. The tactic barely keeps them in minority power. And deservedly so. If DUP went to a therapist he would be diagnosed with PESST. Post Election Stress Syndrome Throughout. The Hippie Flu. Lets keep making fun of him until he develops an eating disorder to go along with it.

There were a lot of German sympathizers in Belgium during both World Wars. The Germans were the masters of propaganda. But I'm not intimating anything. You make a lot of bold opinionated statements. Suppose you enlighten us with some facts to go along with them. Or is this just another anti-American rant you started. Just remember this. George W. Bush is in office. Hmmm, impeccable logic again. I'm not anti-American, I'm anti self-righteous uninformed biggots and that's subtly different. Bush can't win in Irak, so don't expect him to protect us effectively from Russia when they attack!

Let me help you with figuring out the current crop of the American right's darlings.

The old American right was patriotic and wanted to make America better.

George the first was a decorated war hero, as was Bob Dole. The right wing turned against this type of man somewhere around 1994, when Newt Gingrich lead the new revolution that elevated adulterers, thumpers, and greed mongers into power.

Since then, the right wing is AGAINST politicians who have actually been to war.

John McCain was a decorated war veteran and former POW who didn't kiss thumper butt, and was tossed over for an alcoholic former cheerleader (yes, you heard me right, a cheerleader) who was forthright enough with America to tell us succinctly that, since 1974, he had not used cocaine or other illegal drugs.

He had served his country by attending fund raising teas for the Alabama Republican women during the Vietnam war. He then attended Yale on a "legacy" admission - these are admissions based on being the offspring of rich alumni and is a great version of rich-white-man affirmative action in this country.

He then defeated Al Gore, who had also served in the military and was a journalist in Vietnam. Al admitted to using pot in Vietnam, while George continued to tout his virtues by bravely saying that, since 1974, he had not used cocaine or other illegal drugs.

America was outraged by Al Gore's drug history, and gave him the popular vote. The Supreme Court didn't like that at all and awarded the Presidency to George.

In the last election, another decorated war veteran, John Kerry, ran against George the cheerleader, but America deeply resented that Kerry had been stupid enough to actually go to war when he could have served us more effectively by serving tea to Democratic ladies in some southern state.

The right wing hates Ted Kennedy (who is an alcoholic dolt) and keep reminding us that he got loaded, crashed his car, and killed someone.

The right wing loves Laura Bush, who got loaded, crashed her car, and killed someone.

On other right wing notes, they hate gay people, but they don't mind having a Vice President who breeds and raises lesbains and whose wife writes gay themed romance books.

The right wing is also OK with Newt Gingrich, the product of such a sexually deranged family that his sister turned lesbian.

In fact, one of the right wing's favorite women, Phyllis Schafly, loves to condemn gays and working women, but seems to have taken the time to turn her son gay in the process.

The right wing seems to be OK with creating gay people, just not being one.

The right wing also hates gay marriage, but says nothing about adultery or divorce. Their motto seems to be that "marriage is the sacred holy union of one man and one woman"...unless they'd like to boink someone else (as long as it's hetero boinking) or if they want to dump their wives for something a little younger and hotter.

In fact, as Newt Gingrich was leading the impeachment of a President, he was busy at night banging his own intern.

The right wing hates gays, but it loves Rush Limbaugh, a drug addled pundit who just got caught with misprescribed Viagra, and who is gladly accepting the right wing's support, even though the whole reason he had a stock bottle of Viagra in the first place was so he could go on sex safaris to a third world country and boink girls who are so young, he couldn't come close to scoring with them here.

Seriously, all politics aside, think about it: Rush takes a big ol' bottle of Viagra to the Dominican Republic. He's a social conservative, don't forget. If he's unmarried, why does he need Viagra? And why does he need it for a trip to the Dominican Republic?

Dudes, he's out blasting at teenage Dominican chicks, but the right wing don't care!

What I wanna know is why the right wing won't ask Rush about his sex addiction.

I meant only 50% of that, but which 50%?

Re: Finally some right-wing thinking in Stereophile!

Oh, I don't know. Lincoln, Wilson, and FDR fought this Nation's largest conflicts without any actual military service. And they soundly won those conflicts. Grant was a great General that won the Civil War under Lincoln. And yet his Presidency is known as the most corrupt administration in our Nation's history. Truman served has an artillery officer and we have a fifty year stand-off with North Korea to thank him for. Kennedy served as an officer in the Navy. He gets credit for the Bay of Pigs failure not to mention getting the ball rolling on the whole Vietnam is important mistake because of the Domino Theory and something LBJ inherited. He didn't have any military service. Gerald Ford was an officer in the Navy with 10 battle stars. He sat back and watched Vietnam get overrun. Richard Nixon was an officer in the Navy and was forced to resign in disgrace. Andrew Johnson served in the Civil war as a General. He got impeached just like Clinton. Thomas Jefferson and Bill Clinton never served in the military. They are the sweethearts of today's so-called liberalism. There is no correlation between serving in the military and being a good president during times of war. It appears that not having served in the military gives a president an edge on winning wars based on history. You guys still want to stick to the same old tired argument that Bush never served or do you want to change your mind now and claim that because he flew as a fighter pilot in the Texas Air National Guard is precisely the reason why we are in Iraq now. Did I mention George W. Bush is in office?

Re: Finally some right-wing thinking in Stereophile!

Yup, you mentioned that he's in office.

But that's about the same as continuing to remind a terminal patient that he still has cancer...just more bad news.

I'd be happy to help bash the left, too.

My main point is that, really, they're mostly all assholes...both sides!

The main problem with America these days is that the electorate is stupid enough to have bought into choosing one side and then closing their eyes.

We should be demanding more of both the left and the right, not turning this country into some sorry bastion of defending some idiot simply because he's your idiot.

The right wing has degenerated to such a state of stupidity that they can't even remember the dang Ten Commandments for a whole day and need them posted everywhere!

Also...please, I did not mean to infer that John Kerry is some sort of viable candidate!

I don't just want the idiot right out of Washington, I want the idiot left out, too!

I liked Truman and Eisenhower and Kennedy, LBJ was iffy, but the Civil Rights Act was big...liked Nixon, not Ford. Liked Carter - the last prez to balance the budget before Clinton did it. Liked Reagan and King George I. Liked Clinton, hate George II.

What Bill Clinton did that's the worst of the worst is that he lowered the bar for behavior so low, that even George II could get elected.

Let's see, my first Presidential election where I could vote was the 1980 race. Registered as a Republican and voted for John Anderson in the primary, but for Carter in the November ballot.

Liked Reagan, actually, and voted for him in 1984. He blew it on AIDS and other stuff, but I felt like he was trying to do a good job.

1988, voted for Dole in the primary, but liked Hart. Even got to spend a day with him via a strange turn of events.

Dukakis seemed like a disaster, so I voted for George I.

1992 - I'm prone to like incumbents, but felt like George wasn't gettin' 'er done, and switched my regitration to the blue side and voted Clinton.

1996 - Clinton.

2000 - Tragic election. No good candidates. Both were "legacy" dolts who had never worked an honest day in their lives. I'm opposed to royal lineage. The race was so vile I voted against the side that was the most dishonest and creepy...vote for Gore, with deep reluctance.

2004 - A failed Presidency. Had to vote against George II. Not for Kerry, AGAINST George II.

The quality of candidates has been sliding terribly. This bodes ill for our country.

Cheers.

Re: Finally some right-wing thinking in Stereophile!

Fair enough. I was just pointing out that military service should not be conceived as a reason why America may have screwed up by not electing John Kerry. I don't like the balance of power right now but who is to blame for that? You can't blame the voters. Personally, I get damn tired of of the over exaggerated complaining by so-called liberals. In the long run it costs them representation. Liberals are practically handing their power over to conservatives with their big fat mouths. Poor Michael Moore couldn't get out of bed for three days after Bush was reelected. What a pussy. This nonsense of "Win America Back" and "Anyone But Bush" simply doesn't work and and I see the liberals are back with the "Win America Back" slogan. Liberals have no one to blame but themselves. I mean, John Kerry? Come on! The guy is like some EuroTrash snob that wants to rewrite history.

A Belgian, eh?

Is it absurd that the right wings changes the name of French fries to "Freedom Fries"? Someone should have clued them in to changing the name to "Belgian Fries", since a Belgian guy invented them.

I guess they're too stupid for that.

Sort of like today's American liberals relating themselves to Thomas Jefferson? If Thomas Jefferson were here today and saw what so-called American liberals were saying in his name he would never stop throwing up.

Maybe so, but he's rolling over in his grave over what the Bush gang are doing now.

Quite enjoyable and mostly, if not entirely, correct.

Budda, do you mind if I post this to a mail list I'm on?

If not, do you want credit or annonymity?

Thanks in either case. It's quite an enjoyable read.

Can that be done? Actually, I'm just getting to where I can understand the loudspeaker graphs. I'm only half way through my subscription. Interestly, there is enough resources on the website so what is the point of the subscription any more? I just got a post card from the magazine offering a good deal (like one dollar an issue for three years). I may just keep it for a little while longer. That's pretty cheap compared to the price of the equipment being reviewed. I only have one complaint. If they are going to review things like a $90k turntable and so forth the least they can do is put a photo of a woman wearing a bikini on the cover and in the review. Is that too much to ask? I suggest starting with the someone like Vida Guerra.

I'm just curious. Who is the political leader of British Columbia or Canada for that matter? Not that I really give a shit. I'm sorry about some "red state" hockey team winning the Stanley Cup against a Canadian team. You guys should have played like you really wanted it.

Interestingly, one could travel all the way to Canada via blue states. This will make it easier for today's liberals to run to Canada without setting a foot in a red state.

Re: Finally some right-wing thinking in Stereophile!

I got some cool things to try:

1) Make a list of the top 10 or so cities in America you'd like to live in. Then see what "color" they vote.

2) You can try the same with the top ten cities you'd like to visit and see how those colors turn out.

Here's a color map by county:

Color Map

Here's another:

Another color map

Also, for fun, check your state and see if you are a contributor or a leech.

Here's one link...

If you live in a state that is a net money sucker, then shut the heck up and go get a job to cover your butt.

As a Nevadan, I look at all those red states that suck money rather than contribute and think, "Man, those red voters sure don't walk the walk. They want lower taxes but they are already sucking at the teat of the blue states."

If you live in any state that sucks money, shut up.

Go here...

State by state status

Check to see if your state is a donor state or a beneficiary state.

Beneficiary states "suck."

What's wrong with you people?

Are you freakin' socialists?

If so, why be a red state?

If you go by region, the only entire region that scores a "beneficiary" is the south.

Too bad they lost the Civil War, they been leeching off the other, productive, regions and slowing down the whole country.

Name a red state in the south that's not a beneficiary state.

Tell me how many you can find.

Let's have a revision of General Lee's surrender and make them their own country. Without them, we'd run a net surplus!

Woo Hoo!

Let the South rise again!

The big secret:

Red states vote for the party of lower taxes and "fiscal conservatism," but they are just welfare states.

They just sit home in their tank top T-shirts, listening to AM talk radio and watching Fox news while all the blue voters are at work.

Nice gig.
