Not only the sound quality which is far more muddled than Phil Spector's legendary "Wall of Sound", but also what passes for "music". Compared to even the 1980's, today's music is simply... disposable. 50 Cent. Christina Agriculture. The Killers. No way will these loser bands be memorable in 5 years, never mind 25 or 30, like Dylan.

Belle & Sebastian for starters. There are dozens of other indy bands that make great music.

Widespread use of compression to make a song sound louder completely destroys music for me.

I have many recordings from the 1930's thru the 1980's that sound better than modern recordings of today. I think that in many cases it's because the artist and technicians don't know how to take full advantage of the technology.
