I have tried the original and a newer Airport Express to stream music from my mac to my hifi system and keep getting dropouts. The music is unlistenable.

This is not just at the end or beginning of songs, but happens in the middle of songs every minute or two.

I am using the digital output of the Airport Express which feeds into an outboard DAC (Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus, which is about 5 years old).

Any ideas on how to address this?

Thx much!

It would seem to be a software issue. I assume you are using the AirPort utility of your Mac.

Perhaps you need to check the compatibility of the software version you are using. You may need to reload the software if it is corrupted.

Yes, I am using the Airport Utility to set up Airplay. It is up to date and has been reinstalled. My understanding is that AirPort Utility only sets up the system. iTunes/Airplay is what is streaming the music via wifi. I t has all been updated and reinstalled. If it it is the software then it is a defect in the engineering of it.
