Even though it was 22 years ago, capturing Elgar's "Dream of Gerontius" in England's Ely Cathedral remains a highlight of my recording activities. The work, photographed here at the final rehearsal, features an enormous orchestra and choir, as well as three solo singers and the cathedral organ. I used a Soundfield microphone on a high stand above the conductor feeding both a Sony PCM-F1 digital recorder and a ReVox A77 Mk.IV open-reel recorder.
