That's kind of the difference between, us, I think twice about what I post. You apparently don't.

The question is do acoustic waves obey the theory of relativity like light waves? The velocity of light of course is independent of the velocity of the source or the observer. The speed of light is constant whether the source or observer are moving. It is always 186,000 Miles per Second. Are sound waves like photons or are they like bullets? The bullets from an aircraft flying towards a tank at 400 ft/sec firing it's cannons with muzzle velocity of 2000 ft/sec will strike the tank at 2400 ft/sec or thereabouts, no? What about sound waves, will the speed of the sound waves (which is constant at sea level and standard temperature and pressure) change if the source and or the observer is moving?

Close but no cigar. Doppler shift is analogous to red shift in light. It has to do with frequency, not velocity. Sadly, I give no partial credit.

So when dealing with acoustics, which is important? The sound itself as heard by the observer or the source and the effect on the immediate environment? For example, do you want to blow something up or do you want to see (hear) a fireworks display?

You have questions? You have not answered mine. My question, in case it slipped your mind, is: Do acoustic waves follow the relativity theory like light waves? Or are they like bullets? In order that guessing might be discouraged I respectfully request an explanation along with your answer, whether yea or nay.

Cheers,

Geoff

With all do respect, I believe people would be willing to re-hash some of these talks (if they haven't read TuneLand), but ask the question, why would they/we want to talk to you about sound waves, pressure or anything when we actually have stereo systems in our rooms to talk about and explore. According to you, you haven't had a stereo system for 9 years now.

You've talk about you having 2 audio systems, and those systems have been from your archived past. From my reading you, you haven't done anything more than using portable cassette and CDP's for the last two years. With these units and your past you claim to be able to talk theory. Nothing wrong with this, if it is as far as you can go, or are willing to go.

If your not involved in the practical application of this hobby, you remove yourself from the knowledge and wisdom of doing. This is why this thread is maybe going to turn into your best.

To answer your question above, if you read TuneLand you wouldn't need to ask questions that have been answered through the art of "doing" audio instead of talking theory.

As often seems to be the case with you these days, you have fallen on your face again and failed to address the subject of this thread and instead wish to promote your little ToonLand thing. What's up with you guys from ToonLand? Talk about insecure! I always think it's funny and ironic when guys like yourself uses words like wisdom and knowledge. LOL you seem to be just one big ball of negativity and scorn. Relax, let your mind run free. Stop obsessing over all that Audio Nervosa inducing ToonLand stuff. Hopefully it will pass like a stone in your kidney.

Have a nice hair day.

this is perhaps geoff's best thread yet. As for the rest of us, we have stereos to listen to.

Listening to Mott The Hoople "live" tonight. Hope the weekend is full of great music for all of you.

And Michael is still putting us on pretending to be an audiophile.

You can paint a donkey many colors but it's still a donkey. Old audiophile expression.

This might actually turn out to be my best thread if you keep giving me straight lines.

Nothing from nothing leaves nothing. If you can't think of something clever to say of course you're welcome to use my lines. ;-)
