Over the years of our marriage my wife accepts this part of my life and is now enjoying a small bookself system of her on instead of watching TV(as much). She's even starting her on music library and often asks," who's that?" when she hears something that catches her on my system.

My wife loves to listen to music, but is not interested in the fine details of this hobby...

I must say that my wife did quite well in embracing my hobby when we were in the pre-children stage. She got pretty good at manning the controls and helping me run coaxial cable for FM and satellite antennas. She even once survived my accidentally dropping an antenna mount on her head from the roof! Since then, she has waited blissfully outside of hi-fi and record stores, in the car with the kids, more than once. She has displayed the patience of Job.

There is no way I could spend the money or the time if my wife did not also greatly enjoy music.

What, are you kidding? A female audiophile? Never met one, although I hope to some day!

Wife sees no reason to sit still to listen to music. She will listen to it as background music while she does other things.

We're a good team. My spouse is the technical part of our team, has designed an excellent system that rocks the house. My role is the vinyl shopper and overall supporter of upgrades. Blue Notes, Verves—I get carried away on Ebay a bit. The one thing we say to each other almost each and every evening as we're winding down the day is "How could we ever get through these days without this music in the evening to mellow us out?" or "Soothe our souls" and I keep saying to my husband (seriously), we should reconmmend a Stereophile question, because I'm curious: "Has listening to a good sound system, excellent vinyl, beautiful music, added to the pleasures in your marriage?" (If you get my drift. Trying to be tactful here.) What a great pasttime to share with each other. Music is the best.

Do you think i would like is seewing machine as much as my HIFI?

My wife has grown to appreciate this hobby, especially since I have been downsizing the number of components and their sizes (but still improving sound). Strangely though, her favorite component (appearance wise) was the relatively large B&W Matrix 801 Series III's I used to own.

my wife enjoys good music and she's open-minded about it to a degree. She loves my Hovland HP-100, but thinks the Martin Logan Prodigy speakers are too large. Her basic mind-set about being an audiophile is that as far as obsessions go, it could be worse!

She was already impressed with the musicality, but shook her head when I was putting up the Sonex panels on the walls and ceiling. She surprised herself when she admitted that it did sound even better. I was vindicated and validated!

she will listen to music on occasion, but not at loud volume and not for too long.

At least she knows I'm at home instead of hanging out at some bar trying to get laid.

We're both professional musicians and music teachers; for some reason, however, she doesn't really care about increased fidelity. We're both highly educated in classical music and jazz, but for her, she doesn't care how she hears it, she just wants to hear it. She can tell differences between components and systems, and shortcomings annoy her, but she can look past them and just listen. I guess she's the lucky one. She'll put up with my constant tweaking and endless cable purchases, since she's always pining for a new headjoint or other gizmo. To each, his/her own, I guess.

My wife loves music, although her tastes are much less broad than mine. She does appreciate good sound, but if something is deemed good enough, then she feels you should keep it until it rusts, rots or burns. Hardly the audiophile yay! But she loves me and puts up with my audiophilic, tail-chasing ways. Bless her heart.

I introduced my girlfriend to high-end audio and she has been hooked ever since. Every time I make a change to the system, I count on her unbiased opinion to validate the changes. Sometimes she thinks I'm too obsessed but then I throw on her favorite tunes and it is all worth it to see her enjoy the music so much with her foot tappin' away to the beat.

Another unit on the rack is treated as another brick in the wall (unless it is not cheap as a brick). We all know the "WIFE FACTOR".

This can be a touchy subject. My ex-wife absolutely hated this hobby. I remember once that my ex-wife had told me that if I had tried as hard with her as I did with my stereo, things would have been better. Pretty shallow and ridiculous I think. The moral of the story here is that you should not have to give up something that you love so much just to be in a relationship.....regardless of children. I couldn't listen to Beethoven without getting read the riot act or given an odd look. But it was okay when her cat used my $5000 dollar speakers as a scratching post. I envy those who have understanding spouses and ones that also participate. That's great.

I'm lucky my girlfriend loves music, but she still gets a "deer in head lights" look when I try to explain anything to her. What can I do?

My wife loves good sounding music!

My wife tolerates my hobby but would choose silence. Several years ago I worked for several months in the midwest, I left a secondary system for the family. Three months later at Christmas my wife asked me to explain how to turn it on for Christmas backgound music

She loves the new Mission speakers she got me for Xmas. I quote," How can we make the system in the living room sound like this"

Loves music, get's the value, but thinks I over do it....

The lovely Wendi loves music as much as I do and will readily concede that it sounds better over a high quality setup; however she thinks that the price of that gear is sheer lunacy.

Bruce Kendall's picture

She loves it as much as I do, but doesn't necessarily care as much about equipment. She just wants results.
