I have my mom's beloved Steinway. It keeps me honest in all of my work with music, it looks wonderful in our home, reminds me of my mom, and (best of all) it's available for my entire family to use.

I have an acoustic upright and a Yamaha electronic keyboard.

...In my summer home. An old upright that's been there since my great-grandmother owned the place (she had three baby grands at home, all three long gone now....

Acoustical piano is redundant. A friend's daughter insisted on this until, at a party, he introduced her as his "biological daughter." She objected, but he replied "if you can have an acoustical piano, then I can have a biological daughter."

Trombone. I grew up in Chicago.

Nope, only got this one and it don't make music. The only rhythm it ever produces is the backspace key.

Yeah, I've got a Steinway & Sons (B) Grand, a Hammond A100 with a Leslie 145, a Fender Rhodes, and a Vox Continental. I'm after a Mellotron big time! So if someone here has one to offer, JA knows my mail address.

I like listening to some one playing the piano though

I have a "Music Workstation"—a keyboard, synthesizer, MIDI sequencer, etc., all in one "box." These things are a ton of fun!

One Bell full upright (probably weighs about 800 lbs.) one keyboard, two rack-mount synths + MIDI controller in home studio. High-end audio is cool, but there's nothing like "rolling your own" music.

I grew up in a family of musicians both amateur and professional. Accordingly, music lessons were a foregone conclusion and that's where I discovered a strong contrarian streak in myself. To this day I am a plunker in a field of sight-readers. The discipline seemed to outweigh the glory, and the performances always occurred under the tyranny of dates and times. To this day, I associate live performances as much with the stress of putting them on as with the music itself. One reason I like audio so much is that the music waits for when I am best able to appreciate it, not when a schedule printed two months ago says I can have access. Thankfully, not everyone feels the way I do.

My old 1914 Conover Cable also has a built in Pianodisk player. The sound of a live grand piano will ruin you for recorded piano through any stereo.

Yes, I have an upright "acoustical" piano in the basement. Unfortunately, I don't play it anymore (family and job time pressures, maybe when I retire). I donated my MIDI keyboard setup, drum machine, and mixing console, to the kids' school some years ago. But I kept all of the tapes that I made with them and all of the music that I wrote and performed before I became a "responsible" adult.

Both. Making music is even more rewarding than listening to music. The piano rules the roost, but the keyboard is fun for goofing around or for late at night.

I have an Alesis DG8 digital grand. Weighted wooden keys (88), three pedals, and a 200W speaker system. As much as I like it, it's primarily about space saving. I've never met an electric with the power, the sustain, or the timbre to match an acoustic grand.

The keyboard mostly sits in the closet for the "someday" that I'll play with MIDI software, but the piano gets steady use.

There are no instruments of any sort in my house. I am not a musician, nor am I interested in becomming one.

Which belongs to my 2 boys. It's a real cheapy with sampling and all but completely plastic and cheap or did I say that already!

Every piece of music ever written is based on, and can be replicated by, piano notes. No home ought to be without one.

I also have a 1960's era Baldwin two-manual organ with an AGO-spec pedalboard. My wife is a voice teacher and I am a church organist, so these are tools of the trade for us. We each grew up with a piano in the home, and consider the piano an important fixture for any home, especially one in which there are children.

I do have three harmonicas.

I hope to get a decent stereo someday. In the meantime, I've got a Steinway grand and an 88-key Yamaha P120. Not even the best stereo beats having a Steinway! Of course, I don't get to play it often enough.

Used to have a acoustic piano, but got tired of the expense of tuning it. Got a good electric piano instead.

I have a Thomas electric organ

The piano belongs to my wife and I have been trying to get her to start playing again as the piano is my favorite instrument.

My daughter is a state-champion piano player!
