Strange question. Why would a certified audiophile invest tens of thousands of dollars to build a Class-A tube system with electrostatic speakers and then waste his time listening to the F@%&K*#@ 'puter speakers? When I want music, I know what to listen to. When I want info, then I go to the computer. Combining the two in any way shape or form is simply betraying sacred ground.

After spending so much time at my PC over the past three years, I decided having a musical PC is a must. So I upgraded my sound card to the value-oriented Turtle Beach Santa Cruz; connected its digital output to my old Theta Progeny(a) DAC; and then used an extra pair of Alpha Core Micro Purls to connect the DAC to my Diva Swans M-200s, which conveniently include a built-in amplifier. Yes, I plan to tweak the system, but what fun on the cheap to surf and sing simultaneously.

Computers are designed for lowest cost functionality, the antithesis of high-end quality design. Also, my computer and my hi-fi are in different rooms. I don't need a high end system to play background music while I'm working at the computer.

No, I don't play music on my computer and I don't run spreadsheets on my CD player. All three of us are happier that way.

The only time I do is when I am listening to cuts over the Internet and trying to decide whether I want to buy a particular cd. Otherwise, the sound sucks compared to my regular stereo.

I run out of my sound blaster into a dj mixer Vestax PMC-179a and then into my Marantz 240 and then to my old Advent loudspekers. I re-coned those for $30, the amp was used for $70, and the pre-amp was a gift to myself new with my income tax refund. Including the computer, the system was about $400, and it's great.

NO WAY!

I use the stereo system to play the game sound effects :)

Once I get a better soundcard than the one I have, my PC will be my primary digital source. Wish someone would come out with quieter cooling, though.

I will listen to a CD once in a while while "surfing". But my PC won't play my LP's so...

I Listen to alot more music on my computer these days. There's no avoiding it.It's either that because I no longer have the free time to listen exclusively to music in my home system. My gear consists of the usual SB. Live card and Altec Lansing ACS48, not bad, even by audiophilia standards. Looking into some upgrade ideas though, any ideas ?

Someday, just not right now. I have bigger fish to fry, like upgrading my analog front end. Besides, all this is only a matter of being able to listen while at the computer, which is where I am planning to spend less time, thank you very much. Otherwise, instead of reading Stereophile, I'd be reading Computerphile, get it?

There are some great internet radio sites out there that specialize in blues, folk, jazz, etc. I have stopped listening to AM and FM radio. Most of it (not all) is crap compared to my tastes in music. For now I'll stick with the world at the end of my mouse.

No Way ! What's this world coming to? Are there no more audiophiles left? How could this question come up here?... No Sir, I am never going to lie to my own ears. I hate the idea and it hurts me to see this question here.

The sound is awful. Really low fi.

I spend lots of hours working at home in front of the PC and would be severely stressed without being able to play a CD through my PC. The quality through my Cambridge Soundsworks speakers is surprisingly good (no rude remarks, please !) and a whole lot more easy than trying to run the good gear parked in my living room !

I don't have any special card or speakers. I might listen to the radio or CD

On these $#!%^ speakers? No thanks!

No, I find that an adding machine just doesn't cut it for sound. Any streaming source has too many dropouts, which is very annoying. I'd rather do what I do at work and use my blaster, at least it's euphonic and just for fun. At home, I have the system on in the other room and the sound can drift through the various rooms to where I'm working, and when the piece finishes it gives me an excuse to get up and have a stretch and relax my eys.

I now only listen to music on the Computer.

rare, but I do

My computer is the work horse of everything else I do so why not play music at the same time, and it can hold my entire music collection on one hard drive with streaming radio stations from all over the world. iTunes has opened up much more music to me than I've experienced before. The next step is to go digital out from my PowerBook to one of those new Musical Fidelity D/A converters.

Use Windows medial player quite often. Equalizer function is amazing! I do not need to buy high end(expensive end) product.
