David Lynch Remixes Zola Jesus’s “In Your Nature”

In theory, the pairing makes perfect sense. One imagines a young Nika Roza Danilova enchanted by the beautiful, haunting images of David Lynch’s films. And while music always played a major role in those films, Lynch has become increasingly active as a dedicated musician: His recent album, Crazy Clown Time has received enthusiastic, colorful reviews and his collaboration with Chrysta Bell [ay yai yai] sounds completely delicious.

The result is a lovely, gently moving piece with a decidedly dark, 1980s feel—some reverb on the guitars, a little chorus, a little flange, and a lot of passion on the vox. This has quickly become one of my favorite Zola Jesus tracks. The original appears on her recent album, Conatus, while the remix will be available on a 7” single to be released by Sacred Bones on February 21.

Am I dreaming?

Sometimes ideas, like men, jump up and say "hello." They introduce themselves, these ideas, with words. Are they words? These ideas speak so strangely. All that we see in this world is based on someone's ideas. Some ideas are destructive, some are constructive. Some ideas can arrive in the form of a dream. I can say it again: some ideas arrive in the form of a dream.

Forget the supermodel, Stephen, this is some of the best-recorded metal guitar I've heard!

David Lynch is special, ain't he?  Zola Jesus I knew of - Chrysta Bell I didn't.  I like this music.  I found an album in the mid 90's at No-life (in their short life) on Santa Monica Blvd., by 'Shizuka' - depressing music, really - and she later committed suicide.  But a beautiful album if you can find it.  Much in common with these others.
