A better cable will always provide a touch less distortion / humm. That being said, I would not expect a monstrous difference in performance. Whether it is worth it is subjective and only you can tell if the extra cash is worth it.
IMO the analog connection is the best there is.
Be glad your TV has that instead of only the mediocre optical output that most have now.
I would suggest one of the Audioquest cables (the Chicago, for example) which I have had very good results with.
It helps that the receiver is relatively antique (pre-HDMI days), so analog seemed the easiest choice. Thanks for the cable suggestion, that was going to be my next question, which series (Chicago/red river etc. or golden gate/big sur etc.) to use, since you can get all of the above RCA terminated.
