JD was such a recluse, how did anyone notice he died?
I am proud of my high school. We were assigned the book to read in tenth grade when it was the most banned book in the country.
Gotta be the all-time one hit wonder of the book world.
LOL! I had never thought of that topic before.
A good starting list here!
I didn't realize he had so much illustrious company. John Kennedy Toole's A Confederacy Of Dunces would be my favorite. He might have done more if not for his suicide BEFORE he was published. Sad story. It took his mother years to find a publisher. Then it gets the Pulitzer.
Sounds like a progressive Catholic school. We were assigned it as well as The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and Lord Of The Flies in '67-'68. Among others. Kinda like incentive beyond tuition to go to school.
Actually a big Midwestern public high school. Looking back I don't remember any censorship of any kind, be it books or anyone's ideas. Very impressive.
Great picture, ncdrawl!
My provincial prejudice showing .
It really is a great pic.
Very sad.
You can just feel the 'leave me alone' (almost violation) pouring out of it.
Ironically, the day before he died I won an auction on Ebay for a first edition. Got if for $1.99.
