Can Stereophile assemble a master list of ALL Recommended Components online for reference?

It is fun to take a quick look at old issues to see what was "it" at the time.

Perhaps the individual on-line reviews could include a footnote that the component was Class _ on the list for years __, __ and __

I think this is an excellent idea, but a ton of work.

One other idea I've had floating around is that Stereophile add a wiki / forum to each review on the site in the same way we have comments for the blogs etc. Then any discussion about a certain product could easier live with the review. I imagine that many folks will find the Stereophile website and read a review about a product they are interested in, but few will then search for that product within the Forum proper. I could see these Review forums also running simultaneously in our regular forum, we'd just have two places to access the discussion. I also think this might stimulate more conversation about gear reviewed in Stereophile, which I think is a more useful topic than much of what gets talked about around here.

Over time, readers could fill in the missing RC class ratings and other info in the same way wikipedia works. The downside is, per JA's AWSI this month, the wiki info is not edited by a knowlegable pro.

Very intriguing... awesome idea, and more purposeful than mine. Your idea would provide a nice way to funnel interest and discussion in a focused way, and SM could stay more focused on weeding out discussion that doesn't "belong" there (thorny thorny thorny area, I know- but greater control and focus), or provide a voting system for those best responses, with the set up you have in place for your weekly polls.

I would love to assist on a Wiki for the prospect of this, and I feel MANY other passionate audiophiles with too much time on their hands would too.

What about just pulling the old archived RC listings and just dropping them online where they belong in previous, but have a "Archived" listing for the older ones. I would think that the latest (removed) RC listing would be the retained one.

What about just reprinting the RC articles verbatim, much the way you do the reprinted and posted reviews? That could be easy, as aren't they already printed, and assembled formats? I mean if it was an article in mag in the past (like a review), wouldn't it be possible just to reprint them in their own header with the additional style and formatting that they online reprints have?

What about just the brand name and class listed in a large list with just the years, in a format like the Past Issues Index? (I keep thinking of that format as a good simple point of reference method.)

I haven't devoted enough time to figuring out what type of process would be least cumbersome (and time consuming) and still most effective, and trying to integrate the idea of a wiki/link system as you have stated above. More brainstorming needed.

Also, I don't know if JA would find this counter-productive to good business, but what about digitally reprinting the RC issue from the last 6 months to be up on the site for a few months until the next RC issue hits (with a black-out month or two of course). TAS has something similar, and I wonder if they have had increased interest in their magazine and website as a result.

But let me say: What other magazine would directly discuss improvments to their products like this?!?!

(Well, I'm gonna say none... !) Thank you Eric.

This is something we've considered, and we may implement when our new content management system is in place. The current site CMS is separate from that of the blogs, and doesn't allow for comments to our news articles and archived reviews.
