Why do you want tubes?
In the past I built amps/preamps from kits and it was cool. And very cost-effective - you get a lot for your money when you supply the labor for assembly.
1. I don't have current info, but I think that Antique Electronic Supply sells tube amp kits. I think there is also a company (or more than one) that sells an updated version of the classic Dynaco ST-70 tube amp kit.
2. I think you can get excellent freq. response and quality sound from tube kits.
3. It's very worthy!
For guitar amps, they're essential. However, I'm not certain if they're as highly thought of for stereo applications. There are certainly people who will sell their firstborns for a good hi-fi tube amp, but it seems stupid to pay so much for something so simple.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, it seems like a really fun project. I'll be sure to look at your suggestions.
Anyone else have any opinions, or has built one of these?
Magnequest offers tube amp kits, so does Bottlehead. In fact the Bottlehead kits are pretty highly thought of among Tubers. I expect to take on a tube project myself in a few months. I will be interested in hearing how things go for you.
