Brokeback Mountain

Man, Charles Wuorinen has been commissioned to write the opera to Annie Proulx's short story, "Brokeback Mtn.," made famous by Ang Lee's film adaptation, of course. Scheduled to open in 2013 in New York. Hopefully, the score can reflect the emotional reticence of the original short story well; opera doesn't seem like the best medium for this type of story, but hopefully I'll be proven wrong...

Re: Brokeback Mountain

Sounds like an interesting idea ( opera need more contemporary subjects to perpetuate future relevance and audiences ). I am not that big a Wuorinen fan and am not sure opera is his best venue. Benjamin Britten would probably have done a great job with this story. Still look forward to the possibility of this effort.
