Athena AS-F2 vs. Mirage 595is

Hi All,

I am new to these forums, I must admit that the reason why I signed up was because I am in need of advice regarding floorstanding speakers. I am very happy with my current setup but am considering upgrading? from a pair of Athena AS-F2 floorstanders to the Mirage 595is bipolar floorstandering speakers. The Mirage pair that I am looking at are being offered by a family friend who has hardly logged 15 hours of playtime on them and cannot use them because of his young children (at an outstanding price might I add). I have yet to hear these speakers personally but am interested in hearing any opinions as to whether or not it would be prudent to switch to these speakers. I have read a few reviews that say the soundstage of these speakers is superb, which could be a better match my listening area (20'x20').

I would be highly appreciative of any of the experts and persons knowledgeable with these two brands to give their two cents.

My current setup: (2.1)

Receiver: HarmanKardon HK3480
Front: Athena AS-F2
Sub: Acoustic Research S115PS
Input: Creative Audigy 2ZS Soundcard
Speaker Wire: StraightWire Stage(10ft), Sub -THX Monster

Used PURELY for music, mostly for entertaining company.

Much thanks,

What problem? Since you are friends with the seller and he wants to move them wouldn't he let you audition them in your room for a couple of days? Just a wacky idea...

Re: Athena AS-F2 vs. Mirage 595is

rvance,

You have an excellent idea, alas, if only it were so easy. However, I am at a disadvantage because of distance, (over 5 hours travel time) and due to the fact that the potential seller has not truly utilized the speakers to their potential (he has hardly used them more than 10-15 hours) so the dialogue we've had over the phone isn't really descriptive of what the speakers are capable of.

I'm aware of the Mirage reputation and would like to pursue this offer. At the same time, I can't be picky but I'm hoping that one of the many knowledgeable folks out there can give me some insight as to whether or not this is an upgrade or downgrade from my current setup.

Thanks again to all those out there who take the time to consider this,
