Are you still holding on to any ancient audio gear simply for nostalgiac reasons?

Reader Robert Baum writes that he bought a new KA-7002 Kenwood amp in 1973, and though he's upgraded several times since then, "it's been living under our bed (yes, it's still alive!) for at least a dozen years.

B&W Matrix 801 III - the wife hates them but I just can't get rid of them. Too good of sound and too many fond memories listening to them!

AH, Hell, I'm a pack rat of the first magnatude. So most anything I have purchased in audio, in the last 25 years, I still have it. Scary, but true. I really should clean out some of this stuff. Nakamichi 582, Thorens 125 mkII, Audionics PZ3,.........

Hafler DH-200 power amp. I bought it used for $200 in 1987, and I think I could sell it for $150 today. But I couldn't bring myself to do it. So I'm using it to help my teenage son get some oomph out of Final Fantasy X (and to infect him with the high end bug).

A full set of a/d/s atelier components from the early 80s. Classic industrial design—too beautiful to throw out even though the technology is long gone.

Yes, some of it because I haven't got around to selling it. Preamps: Levinson ML-1 and BAT VK-5i. Amps: Threshold CAS1 and a pair of Lazarus h1a hybrids. Speakers: Watson Labs Model 10s, a couple pairs of Quad 57s, and Audiostatic ES100/SW100's. SOTA Cosmos/SME V turntable/tonearm. I've probably missed a few other things. Do I win?

Man, I tell you I went to a flea market last week and sitting on a table was an old Onkyo tape deck. It just looked so nice. All glass no plastic, push buttons, I dunno. I like old equipment, even just for looks. I still use an old Onkyo turntable.

I keep an old receiver in the closet just in case my mega buck system decides to "take a break".

I have an ancient Yahama integrated amp. 1976 vintage. My first decent piece of equipment. About every 18 months I unbox it, crank it up, and am amazed it still plays! It was $420 back then, and considered a midfi "high end" piece during that time. Someday I'll find it a home. . . maybe.

In 1974 I purchased a Mikado receiver with individual bass and treble controls for left and right channels. It still works great and it even has pre-amp inputs and outputs for hooking up a separate power amp.

Yes, I still own an ancient piece of audio gear: a Phase Linear 700B power amplifier that I bought new in 1975 while serving in the Army in Germany. This amplifier performed faithfully and was in continuous service for well over 25 years before being officially retired with honors sometime last year. I am using an Adcom power amp now, but am presently planning to upgrade to Bryston 7B-ST monoblocks for driving B&W Nautilus speakers in my two-channel audio only system. I still plan to keep my Phase Linear for nostalgic reasons--it is still in perfect working condition; only the two lights for the VU meters need to be replaced.

For me, my oldest piece is a Sony ES cd player. I still use it just about every day. It is about 13 years old and works as well now as it did when I got it.

I have a Revox A77 reel to reel with a Nakamichi High Com noise reduction unit that I cannot bear to part with (Even though I haven't had them hooked up in over five years!)
