Are Polk RT1000i a good entry level speaker at the price?

I saw this post on craigslist today:

I was wondering, is the price justifiable? Are the RT1000i a bit outdated? How do they stack up against the newer RTi10? Is it night and day?

If there is something out there that is better for ~$500 range (new or used) that more or less retains the comprehensiveness of this setup, I would consider it. Please, let me know what your recommendations are.

A home theater system? A two channel music system?

What other equipment do you have? What is your room like? What are your music and listening preferences?

I wouldn't buy loudspeakers I couldn't listen to.

I'm looking for an entry-level home theater setup for my bedroom (roughly 10' x 14'). The thing is, I would be playing music from them 60% of the time, so I would like a sound system that would do justice to a range of genres (namely alternative rock and electronic music).

My room does not have any acoustic treatment, but it is very well insulated and sound would not escape easily. My floors are thinly carpeted and the room is lightly furnished, with the exeptions of my bed which is on the opposite corner of where I'm going to put the speakers.

I don't have any other stereo equipment...just my Schiit Bifrost DAC & Asgard amp paired to my HiFiMan HE-400 headphones.

Add B&W 686 to the mix?

Asking price $375. Do you think I'm better off moving to a 2.1 setup for a 10'x14' room? Should I stick with the RT1000i + satellites + center +receiver??
